I graduated from a degree in Computer Science at the end of 2010. I worked for a while in something that was a bit unrelated but now I've been looking for a job in IT for several weeks. Ideally I would like to be in a graduate position as a Java programmer. Does anyone know how to go about finding a job in IT if you're just a recent graduate? I'm currently looking for work in Perth, Western Australia.

Is the java programming business worth going into overall? Is it going to be long hours in front of a computer? Is the salary good? Would it be hard to find a job as a Java programmer? What sort of degree should I get? Obviously I should get Java certified, but should I go for a bachelor degree in science as well?

I've been studying Maya and wondering: if I get good at it and post a 30 to 40 second demo reel on youtube, showing many techniques put together such as modeling, texturing, rigging, animating, dynamics, cloth, fur, hair, rendering..., what's the chance I get a job interview after calling a vfx or game company, showing them what I can do? My opinion is that there's no chance at all unless a miracle happens. I have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, experience working in the IT department of 2 major banks, and a SCJP 6 from 2009. Every attempt to get a job when I called companies due to their job openings for java programmers, failed. I understand it's hard because I'm in brazil, thousands of miles away, and they'd have to initiate a process for a work visa, BUT... if they're posting it on the internet, I'm available, and they don't have anybody else, why not me? Any suggestions of how I could increase my chances? Thanks.
