 | Ok what I want to do is to become a school librarian. I do not have a Master's Degree though. I've already taken and passed Praxis I so there's one step in the right direction. After I take Praxis II for Library Media Specialists can I then begin to search for a job as a school librarian? I live in Mississippi.

 | What services of the school fall under this title? I'm assuming that the librarian or library media specialist is one of the areas but what are the others?
What skills and personal qualities are important for a person whose job is to provide these services to a student body- and that are different than the skills and attributes needed to be an effective teacher?
Thanks
To InGodWeTrust,
The main problem with picking up the phone to call and ask is because it is Sunday and school districts are off today.

 | 23, graduated in '06 with a BA in journalism, career to date hasn't been great, but there's been an offer made to work on a paper's website. However, entertaining the idea of going back to school to earn MLS for teacher-librarian, which I could complete within 18 months and keep working part-time at a job I already have now. Any thoughts on what my best move might be?

 | I have a Library of Science (masters) degree but I need experience to get a job. Any advice?
I have thought about volunteering and also part-time employment with a masters of library science, but my professors in school had told me that doesn't look good on my resume. Any comments?

 | I'm an elementary teacher with licensure for K-6 and gifted K-12. I want to further my options within the field. I have the opportunity to take over a position as media specialist at another elementary school. In taking this I will have to get my master's in library science. My other option is to stay with elementary another year and get my national board certification, and in another year start a master's in reading education. I'm really torn between the two and need to give an answer to the superintendent of human resources within the next couple of days. What would you do?

 | I have heard many people say the job is hard to find. I have also heard that the position has very little say so in what goes on in the library. Anyone here a school librarian/media specialist? What is it like?

 | Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of being a librarian? Is job security better? What about finding a job in the first place? Is there less after school and weekend work? Is it harder to discipline the students that come in the library because they aren't yours? Overall, is it more enjoyable than teaching?
