I am currently looking to enroll in a Networking Option prgram at the Community College(A.S applied science degree) and wondering if the job outlook was like for this type of position! Also if there were any other areas of IT that will be good and have a "low risk" of being outsourced! I'm looking for a "low stress" career change and I love technology and the way it's being implemented in our everyday life! I also would like to make money as well!

...been affected by out-sourcing and L1/L1B visa holders? I was a Novell computer network administrator until 1998 when I moved to Japan to become an assistant English teacher. After 9 years in Japan, I'm thinking of going through the Microsoft certification process (MCSA/MCSE) and looking for an IT job in the U.S. However, I've read that out-sourcing and a large increase in L1/L1B visa holders have made it very difficult to find IT jobs. Is this news true? If there is some truth to it then what specialized areas would be the most likely to have jobs available? I very much appreciate any advice or information. Thank you!

This question is for people who knows computing. Imagine IF you are a novice in Computing and you know the bare minimum in Computer Networks. What if you managed to secure a job as a Network Administrator. Do you think as a novice, you will be able to create or design your own network for your company in only 3 months? Likewise at the same time, do you think you will also know how to set the router or program it to route packets to the desire destinations? As the novice, will you be able to learn to do all these in only 3 months? Let's say you have no prior experience or knowledge and you are now learning all these on the job.

I recently graduated college with an A.S. in Information Technology - Network Administration. Right now I'm just working a help desk job and I absolutely hate every second of it. I want to get into an actual Network Administration job, but I think I'm being shot down because of only having an A.S. and not having any certifications. What certifications do you guys suggest for me to aim for to boost my resume. Right now, I'm thinking A+ and MCSE would probably be my best bet and then maybe a Novell certification. But, I would like some second opinions. Thanks.

Trying to balance cost of education with quality of education. Sure I could get a bunch of books and try to learn myself, but then you run into the questions of are they current, are they complete, and do they cover all the topics of the exams? I have some money for school but not for a whole degree. My plan is to try to get in the door with a certificate or two, then finish a degree while I have an income coming in. So could anyone tell me what the best way to study for CompTIA is? BTW I live in Seattle.
