I'm a recent graduate in computer science and mathematics. I took a job in the finance industry, specifically for a Hedge Fund - it is essentially a programmer job. I would love to subsequently move west to California and work for a software company (whether it be Google, Facebook etc..) and was wondering on advice on whether this is difficult given the job I took. I've heard it's hard to get out of this industry - is that true? Can anyone speak of experience or refer me to anything? I would very much appreciate this, Thank you

I received an email from a well-known company for offering a senior-level position to me. Interestingly, the human resource manger only mention the date & time for interview, but she didn't mention the interview is for what kind of position. My background is a programmer, should I assuming that I am hired for a programmer job and just for for the interview? If you think I need to ask the HR manager for additional info about the position the company is offering, how do I politely ask her this question? Thanks!

Hello, I quit my computer programmer job last year because I was starting my own business with 2 friends. Now I have sold my share in the business and looking to re-enter the workforce. I discovered I had great all-around people & resource management skills so I want to go back to a management job now. How do I explain why I want to leave the business world to go back to a job? I don't want them to think I will be leaving as soon as I get another business or that I failed in Business. Thanks.

I'm really into the software side of IT and I'm wondering what the name of the job is where I can create web or desktop applications. I have a Job Guide Book and skimmed through to find all the jobs relating to IT. Out of: an IT analyst and an IT programmer, which job is the one that I should aim for. Also, could someone briefly explain the difference between an analyst and a programmer? Thanks in advanced!

I answered a craigslist ad for a game programmer job on thursday night. They emailed me back and scheduled a phone interview for friday night. The phone interview was about 2 hours long which included a bunch of grueling technical questions. At the end they said they wanted an on-site interview which i scheduled for monday night. It all seems very positive. What can I expect to be asked in the on-site interview? What is the company thinking at this point?

I'm specifically trying to hire a Senior .NET Architect, so I'm trying to find a comprehsive list of IT/Programmer job boards out there I can post to. Thanks! I can elaborate a bit. I know about the major job boards (Dice, Monster, HotJobs, etc), and I've searched Google and know there are tons of other job boards out there... that's exactly my question. Does anyone know where I can find a comprehensive list of all the *other* job boards (beyond the handful of main ones).

I have an IT programmer analyst job with a consulting firm. Can I legally start an LLC that I do IT projects for in my spare time, using my own hardware and software, in areas of IT that are partially related to the consulting work I do? Will my employer be able to assert any intellectual property rights over the projects and products I build working for my LLC, and do I have to somehow store evidence that I am not utilizing my employer's time / hardware / software?

Question purely based on option. Should companies base programmers jobs biased on the ability of algorithm design? Does not being able to come up with algorithms mean you "don't know a programming language"?
