I'm a graphic designer struggling to learn web design, and I'm not the coding type. It seems that every graphic design job requires you to know how to make websites, and I just can't do it no matter how hard I try. I try to make a site look the way I want it to, but nothing falls in place. I swear I'm about to brake something... Would most GD jobs require you to know a little bit about web design, or a lot?

Which job would involve coding the back-ends of websites using PHP/MySQL? Is Web Programmer CSS, HTML, JavaScript/AJAX, and PHP Software Developer PHP, MySQL, frameworks, etc? Or have I got it wrong? I don't want to come up with ideas, I just want to code what other people tell me to. I'm not a creative person.

Hi, just like to ask those working out there what are the job prospect of a Flash actionscript programmer? Cause i look at the Singapore market, Flash programmers don't seemed to be valued very highly. Even with three years experience, the salary range seemed to be around $1800 for a diploma holder. And unlike sales, there's no visible "ranks" to climb except for being a junior programmer to a senior programmer. I've been working for two years now in different companies and I can't see much prospect sticking with actionscript or is there? Should I change to another language or switch to a new career path?

I'm constantly looking for ads from companies that need website designers and it seems like I know everything I already need to know to design a website (I've already made several of them just for fun). I've got advance computer skills, a freakishly fast typing speed (although I'm guessing that isn't very important), it's easy for me to learn to use new programs, I know a pretty good amount of HTML, I'm really good with computers in general, and I LOVE designing websites. Problem is I'm not sure if that's enough... It's kind of like I'm missing some advance skills. So what kind of skills would an employer expect me to have?

I'm studying web design and I would like to know the stages to knowing what you will ultimately need to know when entering this profession. With HTML being the step one and the basics, to I think XHTML and Css, being two, what's next? JavaScript? MySQL? Can some one provide an ordered list of web site programing from star to almost finish?

I'm a junior studying CS and was wondering if you guys knew of any good ways I could improve my skills during the summer. I was thinking maybe contributing to an open source project, any suggestions on how to get started there?

I'm looking to land that first front-end development role, but I'm quite unsure as to what level of competency is expected of Junior dev's (front-end). I don't have any commercial experience in web development (though I do in SEO/content-editing), but over the last year I have taught myself, to a pretty good standard, both HTML and CSS. I also have a fairly decent grasp of the JavaScript basics along with jQuery. On top of that I know a little PHP, but not yet too much, and know my way around Photoshop. I was just wondering, whether this kind of skill-set is adequate for a potential junior front-end developer, as I'm reaching that stage where I'd like to start applying for jobs! Any help is much appreciated! :)

I'm sure it's not C++ or Java...... but correct me if I am wrong? Otherwise, which computer languages are relatively new?

I know basic HTML and CSS, but whenever people talk about web development there are a bunch of other languages/terms being thrown around, e.g. Javascript, PHP, Ajax, REST, Ruby on Rails, Django, C#, SQL, ahhh! How do these things come together and what do I really need? And once I decide that, where do I go to start coding?
