 | I'm currently a court reporter and looking to get into an office-type position. The pay for a litigation secretary seems pretty good. I have a two-year degree, which I obtained at my school for court reporting. Does anyone know how to become a litigation secretary and if I need any specific certifications/degrees/training/experience, etc.?

 | I have done much paralegal work as well. I could help people with reviewing different types of contracts/policies, trusts, etc. Also, I have a strong litigation background. Of course, not being an attorney, I would never give any legal advice. Perhaps I could somehow help them navigate the very first parts of a lawsuit when they first get sued. I need some clarity as to how I might translate my skills from working for others as an employee to working from home for myself. Please: "real" and serious (and hopefully sincere) answers only. No answers regarding becoming part of someone's "down-line" or up-line or any network marketing stuff. Absolutely No selling products/vitamins/nutritional stuff. If you are into that stuff - - Godspeed and good luck to you, but please bypass this question. I am in Northern California, 70 miles north of San Francisco.

 | And what degree, or any other educational requirements, do you need for each job?
And what do they do?
If this helps, or changes some things, i live in Canada, and i won't be going to university for like 4 or 5 years.

 | I don't want a description or anything. I'm interested in a job in a law firm. I've seen my father keep his job for 26 years and he makes about 55,000 dollars a year or something. He's a word processor. What are the other lower positions?

 | DON'T answer if you have no knowledge of legal careers.
Is there anything in particular a legal secretary needs like a certain course or is it just typing skills/word processing skills and a general legal knowledge...I know there is a ILEX course but do all legal secretaries have to have that?

 | I'm just looking at possible careers and a quiz told me I may like being a paralegal however I know little about it. Is it something you can really go somewhere with or are you basically a secretary to a lawyer? I want a career that's challenging and I can move up in.

 | Is working as a legal secretary too stressful & time consuming of a job? Because I've been doing make up for some time now, but I would love to work also as a legal secretary. Just wondering if I would be able to balance the both of them.

 | I am a Legal Secretary and although I have done some litigation, my main focus has been real estate and corporate and I have mostly been in the document preparation part of it. I got this new job and I will be expected to review discovery documents and schedule depositions. It is a very small office so part of my duties will be more than just regular secretarial work. Bottom line, I have never schedule a deposition before. Thanks.
