Do legitimate companies really interview on Yahoo Messenger?

I received an e-mail that someone wants to interview me for a job on Yahoo messenger. They didn't give any details about the company or position at all. I have applied for quite a few lately and wonder if this is for real or a scam.It sounds fishy. What do you think?

Almost all of them are scams. I know some companies will do pre-screening with a telephone interview but in my almost 20 years of working, including being involved in recruiting staff in various positions, I have never heard of a company doing an IM interview

First of all, what legitimate company would offer to interview you without first giving you information about the company - company name, office address, phone number, website, brief company history, etc? How can you have a proper interview if you don't even know what the company does and what position they are considering you for???

NEVER agree to any interview, by IM or in person, if you know nothing about the company. Most of these are just identity theft scams that will ask you enough questions to commit identity theft with the answers you give

Want more proof it's a scam - tell them that you only have a work computer and their firewalls prevent you from IMing so you would rather set up an interview at their office - then ask for the company name, address, landline number and a brief description of the company and the job they are offering. Say you can't do an email interview because you are dyslexic and your typing is not very good and you don't want to be judged on that. If they don't agree then that's all the proof you need.

If the jobs you applied for were online , from a Craigslist ad, or from some spam email that you received..it sounds highly fishy.

If you go ahead with it, come post what they say about the job before you do much else, and let the people on Y!A check out for scam potential.

I have just added a new person to my friends list on messenger. Every time I try to IM her, my messenger encounters a problem and closes. This had never happened with any of my other friends. I can IM anyone on my list, except this new person. Does anyone know how that can happen or why and what I can do to correct? Thanks.
