What are the responsibilities / duties of a warehouse worker? Any help would be greatly appreciated. The short description says: This position involves duties such as in receiving, storing, assembling for issue or shipment, and shipping a variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials, and equipment. Performance of the work requires knowledge of the methods used in processing material into and out of the supply system (e.g., tallying types/quantities of items against receiving/shipping documents). Skill in palletizing, stacking, and appropriately arranging/placing items in storage locations.

Hello everyone, I worked at a biotech company for 4 years as a material handler (shipping and receiving) and the company recently shut down. I've been searching at different biotech companies but can't find anything that has to do working in the warehouse. I've search on websites such as monster.com, careerbuilder.com and biospace.com as well. Biotech are more for scientist not people from my field. I've been to science job fairs and felt discourage because non of the companies had any openings for me. I tried networking as well but still no openings. I want to continue my path in working in biotech but I can't find anything. By the way, my resume is updated but I can't find any companies with openings to send them out to.

I have been working as a Material Handler in a warehouse for a little over 5 years now. I have been trying to get out of the warehouse field for almost a year now with no luck whatsoever. I have applied for other non-warehouse jobs but i haven't got any responses in return. The only companies that i get replies from are other warehouse jobs, obviously because of my experience. I have my AA but that doesn't seem to help at all. The truth is, I still dont know what I want to do as a career; but what I DO know is that it is not in a warehouse. What other jobs (not warehouse) can a person with my experience have a chance with? Serious replies only. I am beginning to lose faith in job hunting. HELP!

[I miss working at Martin Brower and Valspar] I been laid off since October of 2010 and I knew it was coming because the same issue happen to a previous warehouse I worked at, Martin Brower(2005). Last year I worked for Valspar a Plant/DC site that lost the Walmart account. So that means a decrease in the work load and less money for the company. When I first I heard that we were losing the account during the meeting it was a flashback for me all over again when I was worked for Martin Brower it a similar situation because they lost the Quiznos account so that's how I knew. Some of the employees had no clue because they never been laid before and some had very few warehouse experience. It took about a month before the company announce what was really going to happen during the process of losing the Walmart account and everyone had their own ideas of what was going to happen but I knew differently someone was gettin' laid off and majority of times they go by seniority. It just tough looking for work right now. It's tough in general for me, just life period. I just have to say something because I am tired of being beat down when I'm trying my best to make my life better, shit happens. Growing up was a shit hole for me and still is... Can't I just find a decent job that will help me pay my bills and help me save for my future? I can't even go to school because that requires money, Money, Money, Money. Right now I am living in a low-income studio and my only income is my unemployment benefit and that won't even last. I just want to go to work and go to school part time like I did in the previous years. Is there anyone else who is the same boat as me? I been looking and drive around. I even applied at probably 6-7 different counties in the bay area and in the valley of California. The worst part is I live in Stockton, California now, I mean I had to move back here again after the lay off. Stockton is all bad, I lived here for about 20+ years so I know what I am talking about when it comes to employment in this corrupt city. I tried various website, you name it, I applied and registered. Sometimes what I do is drive around and write on a piece of paper the name company that I can find and come back home and apply online and at time I do go to the front clerk and ask for application and majority of times they would they have an online application on their website. Or I would google for example "warehouse distribution center, California" and list of companies would pop up and I would apply and send a resume to all of them. I would look through out Sacramento County, San Joaquin County, Bay Area Counties just looking for any jobs that I feel that I qualify. I made account with Careerbuilder.com, Indeed, Caljobs.ca.gov, etc.. It goes on. The main thing I see most are jobs that require a certificate or degree. I have none so it is going to be a challenge for me. Other than just warehouse jobs, I do look for other types of jobs like: production worker, material handler, truck driver assistant, merchandiser, store associates, etc. Please feel free to give some pointers and feel free to tell your side of the story if you are going through the same thing. Thank you and bless those who are struggling not just looking for work but struggling with life. Note that I do apply in person and call at times. It is the same thing " currently we are still review other applicants" I also get a courtesy notice if I send something online.

To make a long story short, my husband and I use to work in an warehouse. After I got pregnant, I stopped working there. My husband was good at his job so he continied working there for a while and became the night shift leader. There were mainly all men working there. They ended up hirig more people after I left, which they were always hiring but he was a material handler and i worked in assembly lines. So they ended up hiring some chick in material handling, really tall, pretty black girl. We had a lot of ghetto men working there that did not respect the ladies and would often hit on them inappropriately, not my husbadn though, he's one of the nice ones that didn't like how the other's talked. So he recently mentioned to an ex co-worker how he trained this girl and she was better at pulling parts than some of the men. They were always trying to hit on her so she asked my now-husband if he could walk her to his car bc she didn't want any of them messing with her...and he kind.... of laughed and was like i have a gf. then she was like oh well i don't want to make your girl mad. is it just me, or don't girls only ask guys to do such things when they have crushes on them? He didn't walk her out anyways, he wouldn't do such a thing plus i picked him up from work all the time. He said she didn't like him..but little do men know about these slick females now-a-days, lol. This was b4 we were married.

My boyfriend graduated high school in 2008. He worked as a subcontractor for a hardwood flooring company from the age of 14 to 18. Since then, he worked as a sales associate in the flooring department of a store, then as a materials handler/forklift driver at a railroad company, and now he works for a company that makes paper boxes doing machine operation, packing out, etc. His dream job would be as a carpenter, making furniture and things like that. He took three years of carpentry classes in high school. He knows, however, that unless you get lucky that's a hard field to make money in. He likes working with his hands and likes to look back, see what he did, and be proud of it. So what kind of college majors might he be interested in? He doesn't want to give up at the high school diploma because he knows that basically means nothing now (unless you don't have one of course), but he's not totally sure what to go into. He was thinking about construction management, but what other college majors would be useful in manufacturing/warehouse/skill/trade type of work? Oh, and we're looking for associates OR bachelors degrees. Nothing beyond that. No, most companies in our area are not unionized. And the problem with construction management is that he is sort of color blind. He can see colors, but if they're similar or close together, he can't tell the difference. I read on something about construction management that he may have trouble getting some jobs if he has that problem.

I've been driving a forklift for the last 2 summers in a seasonal job moving pallets of mulch and dirt around and I really enjoy using power lifting equipment and heavy machinery but the biggest thing I've used is the fork. I'm interested in doing this for a living full time but I've heard that alot of warehouses are only concerned with getting things done fast and skimp on the safety part of it. Does anyone know of a good company to work for in this regard? How much they pay and if any pre certifications are needed?

I saw this ad on Craigslist. It was "Warehouse laborers needed" when I replied, I got an email that said this= <<<The facility I manage is an exchange center for certain controlled substances. The work isn't all that hard. Small regular shipments on a daily basis . For security reasons there are many guards and cameras to make sure none of the material is unaccounted for If you are no longer interested I completely understand. Pay is 800$/day 9-5 mon-friday. Figured I should be upfront about that. Let me know if you may want the job.>>> ---WHAT DO YOU THINK this guy could possibly be up to??? Nuclear waste handlers don't make that kind of money. Even drug dealers couldn't afford to pay that much and even if they did, they wouldn't put an ad on CRAIGSLIST, they just use gang members to stuff balloons or whatever. PS Believe me, the reply raised a hundred red flags with me, I'm not interested in working for this guy,...but I have to know, what do you think the hustle is??? I can't tell what they'd be trying to pull...or maybe it's just a crank? My best guess is , they probably ask to meet for an "interview" in a clandestine location, and rob whoever shows up.... "Hey there" did you even read the question? I figure that if it's a real job, it's either highly illegal or deadly. If it's not a real job, they probably try and get people in a remote location and rob them.
