	How good are home security alarms in apartment buildings ? Are home security alarms necessary in apartment buildings. We own our condo and were considering installing a home security alarm. What do home security alarms do, what are they capable of ? Is it worth paying $ 30 a month for an alarm ? Is Brinks a good name in the alarm industry. 	How do I become an alarm installer? So I would like to do some sort of trade and this seems to interest me. I always see adds for jobs but I don't know how to get into that field or what kind of training/schooling I need. I live south of cleveland about an hour if that helps. 	Does anyone know of a good alarm monitoring company for an existing home security system? Does anyone know where I can get monitoring for an existing home security alarm? I was just at an estate sale and bought this big box of what they called gagets for $12. In the box was a brand new GE Simion XT (appears it was never installed) Verizon cellular card, 6 door sensors, 4 motion sensors, 4 smoke alarms, remote touch screen and some other stuff. I had in mind to put the touch screen by the door then hide the main unit in a closet or something. I talked with several different alarm companies, one wanted to send a professional to rip mine back out and install theirs. One other place said my stuff was compatable, but they would only monitor my system if I purchased it from them. They were not at all impressed that I got it from an auction. I'd like to do it with cellular if I can because I don't want to get a landline, but one place that charges $8.95 will only monitor it if I have a landline. The biggest problem with cellular, the only strong signal I get here is from Verizon. We have a small local GSM company, but they don't play well with others (I know T-mobile won't work here at all) Not sure if AT&T will roam here but I know they can't be activated here. Already tried a GSM Tracfone here and it's a no go. Some other facts I found out, if I have one monitored smoke detector and contacts on my front and back door, then just take basic monitoring for around $10 via landline, I get the same insurance discount as if I have 10 smoke detectors, montion sensors, window alarms, etc. and pay $45/mo for interactive monitoring. I've also learned the local cops are very very slow to respond to calls from alarm companies since almost all home security alarms are false alarms and they said they would likely just drive by 40 minutes after getting the call. Makes me question just how much I want to spend on a monitoring service, but at least they would let me know if something happends and I can have the neighbors run over and check if I'm not around. 3 answers - Asked By: wqdh403 - 4/23/2013

	Why can't electricians get it? Why is it so hard for a electrician to understand a simple fix? I have tried for over eight years to get one to listen. All I need is for one to change a wire from stranded to solid. I have explained that I had the same problem at another house. I know what fixed the stray current. Electronic is more sensitive than electrical. Iam about ready to rip out the wire myself. Please electricians, Listen. Try to use some common sense. Thank you.... 	How much did you pay for an ADT system? I was given a price quote for an ADT home security system. The price I was quoted was: $100 per glass break detector $150 per smoke detector $75 per door or window contact $299 for the 'wireless package'--1 keypad, 1 keyfob, 2 contacts, 1 motion detector The service would be $35/monthly. What have others paid for their security systems? Are these prices negotiable? I think they seem fairly high; is there a way to just buy the basic ADT package and add on things like glass break, smoke detector, etc., purchased elsewhere? 	Can you be fired if you are put on permanent light duty? Hi everyone, I'm an electrician in CT and 7 months ago I hit my elbow on a pad lock after drilling a lock and what happened is I hit my ulnar nerve. After therapy etc...I was put on light duty for 3 months and I went back to the Dr. and he said you lost 10?f your capacity due to heavy installation. So he put me on permanent light duty which states "no torquing or pulling of wires" and of course my job title is commercial installer. So for the past two days I had to follow another installer around and do light inspections, programming of panels etc..in which there is plenty of work I can do that does involve the activities I need to avoid as stated by my doctor. So now that I am on permanent light duty can my employer fire or lay me off??? Again I live in CT and I'm a licensed electrician. This injury does not make me completely useless in my field because of the extreme knowledge required for programming fire and security systems in which I am able to perform but of course the company will not make it's numbers because they have an installer with restrictions now.
