Think about "raw" jobs. Jobs that aren't office work. Jobs that involved physical labor, jobs where conditions are not at all spectacular or safe. Just a few: woodcutter, miner, prostitute. What occupations make life difficult? Can you think of any else?

I am a British Citizen, and my Grandad is Canadian, and I am thinking about taking a career break in Vancouver for a year on a working visa. I am a Construction Laborer with Bricklaying qualifications but I am not time served and only semi-skilled. I am 24, so I have around 6 years experience in manual labour, and 2 of that as a Bricklayer journeyman/hod carrier/improver. Is there jobs in Vancouver like this? I was thinking about maybe trying to get into some kind of maintenance on the highways, or railways, or working in a crew of some kind. How would I go about doing this with my current Construction, manual background? And would I stand a chance? A friend of mine told me there is a shortage for manual, physical labour in Vancouver as alot of people are going into office jobs etc..... Would love some help/advice please ;) CJ
