I want to know like the basics of what you need to know and where to find this information for a job say at Best Buy in the home theater section. I was told at a past interview you need to understand surround sound, cable box, tvs, cables, etc. Where can I find basic info to study on these areas? Thanks.

I am budgeting about 500-600 for the project and about 100 for the screen. I can afford a 2000 projector. A ViewSonic PJ506D SVGA (800x600) 4:3/16:9 2000 lumens business projector is going for 500 with a mail free screen and mount offer. An InFocus In72 WVGA (852x480) 900 lumens home theater projector is going for about the same refurbished with no extras. I have read that I really should get a home theater projector rather than a business projector like the 506D, but the lumens scares me. I am projecting on an 80"screen with blinds and curtains closed. no lights. still some ambient light. Which will be better. I am going to use it the a really nice DVD player, Wii and Home theater PC. No interest in HD DVDs for atleast 3-4 years when I will prob upgrade this anyway.

I have just purchased a sony bravia 40" led tv and have an older sony home theater system. I'm looking for the best way to get the sound from my tv to my sound system and would like to know if fiber optics is the best way or, if I should just get a high quality RCA cable... I would also like to know what the best cable to buy is. It's my first time actually having a tv with different output options.

Assuming I have the proper wattage coming from the amplifier and the ohms are the same, can I use an subwoofer made for an automobile in my home theater? I know about the different box types and sizes and that's not an issue. I'm just not sure about the voltage, as the house runs on 110 volts while the car feeds its electronics 12 volts. Please help!

I understand that home theaters are not cheap, but I am not looking for the whole package. I just want to have some speakers for surround sound for my 13x13 room because my TV sound really is not great. Is there anything out there for under $50 that will do the job? Once again, I am not looking for a DVD player or anything fancy, just some speakers that can be set up for surround sound. Thanks!

As I already stated I purchased a samsung home theater system in a box and am trying to connect my Sharp 46" HDtv to it so that I can watch tv and hear it through the system. I do have directv service as well and would like to be able to enjoy hearing it through the new system-I tried connecting the HDMI cable from the dish to the reciever then the reciever to the tv and all that could hear was the subwoofer. I even tried the red and yellow wires and got the same result after looking at both the tv and reciever noticed that the tv does have optical output on it and so does the reciever but the tv appears to have a different end then the receiver anyone have an ideas for me?

As i started to watch movies in 3D at theatres i became a big fan of 3D (imax technology is best) with 7.1 surround sound. and i am planning to convert my room into a home theatre. i am not talking about 3D projectors because the refresh rate is lower than 3D tv. suggest some best 3D HD tv's which are as good in 2D. good refresh rate and highly satisfactory in 3D. also suggest some best 7.1 surround sound systems. thanks in advance. keep rocking.
