Machinist Job Questions & Answers

I've been doing many warehouse jobs from forklift operator, assembly, inspector, loading and unloading, picking, packing, quality assurance. I guess all I need is to move up the management ladder but I know I wont get too far up since I don't have the proper education. So I've been considering hvac or machinist CnC programmer. I've been looking on the Internet and seen many negative reviews about machinist jobs. Or the other option i have is to get trained and get a CDL and drive locally for a mining company?

I will be graduating in two months with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Since the beginning of the year, I have been frantically applying for many, many jobs; most of them in my area but some are states away. Job-hunting websites (monster, beyond, etc.) , are packed full of surprisingly high paying jobs for machinists and particularly CNC Machine Operators. My home state of Maine has a shortage/demand of trained machinists causing the high price of machinist labor. I am trying to decide if it is worthwhile to pursue a certificate or AS in Precision Machining Technology at the community college in my hometown. Depending on whether I get the certificate or the associates degree, it could take one to two years to complete and cost roughly $3,000. I already have ~$40,000 in student loan debt thanks to the exorbitant tuition and fees at my state university. Graduate school would compound that debt significantly, which I would like to avoid. I also have a wife and 5-month-old son who I am trying to support on very little right now, and I was really hoping to be financially secure in an engineering-related career upon graduation, which is looking unlikely at this point despite my high GPA, number of jobs applied for, and networking efforts. We live in a house in a town we like, so we would prefer not to move, and machinist job opportunities are very nearby (if only I was qualified) that pay $35-$55 per hour. This would be better starting pay than most entry-level engineering jobs offer.

I'm 16 and my life is just starting. I am still working to earn my High School Diploma and would never drop out. But my girlfriend makes a ton of money and I'm kinda embarrassed because I don't have a "Real Job". I volunteer at places and things like that. However I do make money. I'm on a toddler/little kid TV show. It pays pretty well but I want to be taken more seriously. My girlfriend takes me to classy places and all her friends are highly educated like her. I don't want to depend on her money ether. The TV show pays really good but its not a lifetime career that I will be able to do when I'm 35-40. So I wanted to ask what are some lifetime jobs that pay really good money that only require a High School Diploma? By the way, please don't tell me to go to college it will make me feel worse. Iv heard that so many times, people think I should go because I'm around college degree people all the time. My parents are poor and don't have that kind of money to send me their and my girlfriend does not want to pay for it. Besides I'm not that smart everyone thinks I'm stupid.

I'm wondering what's the difference between the two, since i work at an auto shop that's both a mechanic shop and a machine shop and the machinist knows basic engine work. Is it the same or or are they two completely different things??

I am going to school to become a machinist. I will receive an associates in machine technology. Pretty much all of the companies I want to work for after I graduate require minimum of 2 years of experience, and the only experience I will have will be the two years in the program. Will companies accept this as two years of experience?

I have an associates in exercise science but I don't know if I want to stay a personal trainer the rest of my life. I just wanted to know some other avenues I could go in a job that would pay enough to support a family. It doesn't necessarily have to be related to exercise.

I was in school during my previous period of employement and wanted to focus in school. I couldn't handle a job and school at the time, so I stopped showing up and eventually got terminated. On a job application do under "Reason for leaving" do I need to say I was terminated? Some websites are saying it's better to generalize it and put "Focus on education" some say, be straight forward and say I was terminated. Which is the better answer?

Went to trade school for 2 years, finally got a job in my field(im a machinist), a good job(well paid and all) BUT... everyone in the workplace is scared of the production manager. Every Friday, at least one person gets fired. People lie about mistakes they make to cover up and make sure they don't get fired. The job itself is not that stressfull but the stress comes from the boss's way to deal with people.. "keep calm and remember never to justify, argue, defend or explain" Precisely what I tried doing and you are 100?ight, it put fuel on the fire! To answer your question, he doesn't let people "stand up for themselves". Part of his supremacy preservation technique I'm guessing. Thanks a lot!!
