 | I have always been a creature of habit and take any sort of change not very well. This issue has held me back from doing many things. Whether it is leaving a bad relationship, moving, or changing jobs, it can be very scary for me. Sometimes I have stayed in bad situations because I am too afraid that it might be worse any other way. I tend to ride the car until the wheels fall! Anyways, I have been at my place of employment for about 8.5 years. I have grown very comfortable with my co workers and supervisor over the years. I like it where and I am. But things have changed. It is not a very stable place to be anymore. There have been multiple layoffs, and raises have been non existent. Recently, I was sent to assist another department. I was told it was temporary and that I would come back. I don't really like the other department because I am happy where I was. Like anyone else, I put my head down and worked as hard as I could to hurry up and finish so I could go back to my happy place. Apparently, they liked my work so much that they offered a lead position to me. That is an automatic 5?ncrease in pay, not to mention a potential path to move up quicker than I ever have. My supervisor and manager pulled me aside advising me to accept this position. I thought about it over the weekened, but still decided to decline the offer. That did not go as planned. The other manager who wants me over there asked them to tell me to reconsider this great opportunity. It is a great opportunity. But this means I would have to leave the place and the people I love. I would have to start all over again. I would have to get used to a new supervisor all over again and co workers. I know all of these people are looking out for my best interest here, but this is hard. I feel like I am leaving my home! I am so sad right now. What if I fail? What if they don't like me I am so scared! From a business stand point, not doing this would be foolish. I will end up accepting the posistion, but am afraid I will be miserable. I don't know. I know I have to do this, but I am very weary. If I stay where I am, I could be on the next layoff. If I go, I will be promoted immediately.,

Fromm who i support is saying that people of the 20th century hate their job find no purpose no meaning in it. i agree cuz we work mainly for economic prosperity rather than self fulfillment or somthing like that. | I have some fantastic, hard working employees who have been assets to our company for a long time. They get extremely disheartened when I pass them over for promotion. I understand that, but the reason why I choose not to promote them is because they're just too d**n good at their jobs, and I fear it'll be very difficult, maybe even impossible to find an adequate replacement for them if I move them up. They get extremely irritated when I promote "John" their co-worker who only puts 1/3 of the effort they put in, and doesn't play for the team. But the truth is that those seemingly lazy, selfish workers make great overseers. They're not meant for playing for the team, they're meant for managing the team. That's why the promotion always goes to them.

 | The area in question is very accessable, five miles outside of town on private property. The water table is 45 feet down, so we're not worried about that. Getting workers and equipment to the area will be no problem. There are no trees or bushes that need to be cleared out of the way (area used to be a parking lot). There are lots of rocks, (some 2 to 3 feet in diameter). I have every reason to believe the rocks go all the way down.

 | I already have a job, but the position does not offer me benefits, and there is an extremely small chance of advancement. I could move laterally, but upward mobility is highly unlikely.
I know the obvious things like not conducting the job search using the company computers, don't save the materials onto the computer at work, conduct phone calls discreetly or outside, don't give the contact info as your work email/number, try to take time off or be discreet if interviewing, etc. Any other hints?

 | I graduated in 2003 with a BA in History. I didn't have any luck getting a job in the history field after college, and now I'm 2/3 done with my MA in Military History, which I will finish in August--although I won't get my diploma until December. I want to work at a museum or do historical research, but so many jobs require experience. I've got education but don't have any work experience in the history field, and I can't just volunteer because I need to pay the bills somehow.
I live in Alaska and want to move back to the Lower 48, but I need to get a job before I move, and it needs to be in late August or early September so I can move before winter comes.
Does anyone have some good advice for me? If you work in the history field, I'd especially like to hear from you.
Thanks for your answers so far--keep them coming! I didn't do internships before because I didn't know right away after college what I wanted to do. I've applied for a couple internships, but I don't know if I'll get them since so many internships actually want people to have experience. I'm not good in front of people, so I'm not really interested in teaching. I'm the type of person who likes to work behind the scenes.
Oh, in response to the other answer--about going into the military. I'm not interested in joining the military, although I definitely support our troops. I'm more interested in the history aspect. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

 | I'll be studying for a degree in this field next year and the university I'd like to apply to gives the option of minoring in a Modern European Language and I'd just like to ask, which language do you think is best to study? Italian, Spanish, German or French? If they had Swiss or Dutch, I'd pick those because they tend to have quite cutting edge stuff in the engineering department but they aren't an option. Tell me...what do you think?

 | I am updating my resume as I have finally grown tired of my current working conditions. I have been with my current employers for four years and I feel it is time to move on. The way I had my resume before was amateur at best and now I want something that will showcase the experience and skills that I have gained over the few jobs I have had. Here is the bulk of my current resume.
Objective: To obtain a position that will enable me to use my strong organizational and customer service skills along with my ability to work well with people. I am interested in any opportunity to learn and grow as a professional within the company.

Attending Local Community College
Personal Strengths: I am loyal, dependable, responsible, detailed oriented as well as a hard worker. I work well in a team setting as well as independently.
References: Available upon request
What can I change to make the wording more professional and attention getting? Should I add to or omit certain details? Should I include the objective on the cover letter as well? Do I need it on my resume if I have it on my cover letter? Please don't tell me to look it up online, I tried that but I keep getting information from one site that is contradicting to another. Its all very confusing and I just need a change.
Also, I have completed the course requirements for an Associates Degree and have received a letter stating that my application from graduation was approved. I'm just waiting for the email asking for me to come pick up my diploma. I am still at the college for another degree in a different field. Should I mention the degree?
Any and all suggestions and advice are more than welcome and highly appreciated. Thank you for your time and help.

 | I don't understand why this is happening. People are out work, while it's becoming more difficult to find new ones. I was out of work for two years as a drafter with Autocad. I tried looking, and I couldn't find a position in drafting available with CAD program since most only hires engineers. Again, why all of this?
