I am looking for CURRENT statistics about welding jobs by city and state. I want to know where structural steel welders are needed the most so I can focus my job search. I have 30+ years of experience, I am considered over qualified for most welding jobs but I will take what I can get in this poor economy.

I recently completed getting my welding certificates with the millwright union, but things are very slow with the union right now, and I am considering buying my own welding equipment. Does anyone know how I would go about finding independent welding jobs, especially in Phoenix Arizona area, which is where I am located. Any suggestions, thoughts, experiences would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, well it's my first year in college. to start it off, im terrible at math. and i was curious. what would i need to be good at, to go into this field. How hard is it? Whats the best welding job? Im sorry, if i dont make much sense. but im anxious because welding seems like a field that i would love to go into. especially underwater welding. which i heard is really hard, and dangerous.

I've heard of people using car batteries but what about a PC power supply? I've got one here that can supply 40 amps at 5 volts or 20 amps at 12 volts, which might make it perfect for light spot welding jobs. Biggest problem I can think of is that it will shut off if it's momentarily short circuited. Can anyone think how to get round this?

I'm just wondering what the requirements to be a Certified Welding Inspector are. Also how many years of experience do you need and how much do they get paid (in Wisconsin). Which schools would be a good choice to become a Certified Welding Inspector? Or which types of welding jobs pay the most? Thank you for your time. Never mind I found all of the answers on this site. http://www.aws.org/certification/

I'm going to have a garage do it but i was wondering how easy or hard is it to do a welding job on a car's exhaust tubing system? My exhaust system needs to be lengthen by 2-3 inches so they are going to cut it somewhere and then add a 2-3 inch piece of tubing so that the length will fit my car. Is that a relatively easy and uncomplicated job? Any good articles or pictures on how welding is done on car exhaust tubing?
