Event Marketing Job Questions & Answers

I currently work for a large university and will possibly be relocating as my fiance has just received a job offer from a company in Atlanta. Most of my experience is in special events / marketing / communications. I would love to find a job with a local college or university in Atlanta or would be open to working really anywhere. :) I'm willing to take an administrative job that incorporates my skills (event planning, marketing, etc.) if necessary. How is the job market in Atlanta? Do you think I'll struggle to find a job? Thank you!

I have worked for the same IT company for 8 years. I have has two salary raises of £50 per month and £100 per month. I am the marketing department in that I have to do everything, events, marketing plans, pr, funding, networking, go up and down the country and so on. I take home £1300 a month after deductions. My appraisal is coming up but if the sales team salaries are not risen, then the chance of them getting sales from following my campaigns are low. I would move if I could...but they are likely to say if I don't like it, go..I would just like to be paid something close to what the job actually is. not what management think it is....so - any advice?

I've been in finance for about 5 years and realized it's not for me. I am making a transition into marketing and two opportunities have come up: one at an agency for extremely low pay and one at a corporation for pay close to what I was making but it's specifically in Event marketing. I'm not sure what would be better in the long run to begin a new career path in marketing. Can anyone with experience provide any advice or things I should think about? I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I manage event marketing tours. In 2006, I managed tours for 4 different companies. I spent a total of 241 days on the road. What amount can I deduct for hotels and meals? Also, are there deductions besides laundry & cell phone that I should be thinking of? 2 companies paid using a 1099 and 2 companies paid using a W-2. I do not have receipts, but I have contracts with all companies and my tour routing schedules to prove I was away from home & paying for meals/hotels for 241 days. I was all across the country...is there a set IRS amount that I can write off no matter where I was at in the country? I have all of my cell phone receipts which was used for business about 90?f the time.

I have a lot of experience in event sponsorship sales and event marketing. I'd really love to work with a performing arts organization (ballet, opera, etc), media company (like Turner Broadcasting), or an ad/PR agency in some capacity. I am available to relocate anywhere in the U.S. Any leads? Please, don't tell me to go to Careerbuilder and Monster. I am networking to find an actual person within an organization that may be able to guide me in the right direction. I shall appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

I just recently graduated college with a BBA degree in marketing. Now I am out on the market looking for a good job. I really want to work in either a.) the sports industry, football, baseball, basketball, anything or b.) a career that involves a lot of travel, hopefully something around event marketing. However, both of these markets are very hard to enter into or you need a lot of previous experience. Is there anyone out there that has any connections or advice / tips on how they got started in sports marketing industry or an events marketing job with lots of travel? Thank-you ... anything you have to say about this would be helpful.

I am currently looking for a job in the events planning market in or around NYC. I am graduating in May with a BA in Music, and would love to incorporate that with my talents- planning and leading. I am a person who has innovative ideas and knows how to make them a reality. I am running into a issue with my job search, mostly because I am having a hard time pinpointing exactly the position I am looking for, and what the position is called. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I dream of working for a music band, either in events, or marketing or playing on scene..Do I have to ask the music agent first? How should I proceed? A have a few bands in mind, some more or less famous.. Major bands must have a lot of logistics and support people and funds I guess. Should I ask Warner and other major music corporations that have contracts with these bands rather?

I am moving to melbourne on a work holiday visa. I have a year but I would ideally want to get a job in marketing/public relations/promotion event planning. Are these kind of jobs available? If so what are the biggest names out there in terms of firms/companies. Also, I am well aware that I might have to perhaps apply as an intern and work for free for the experience, and then get a part time job to support myself. Does this sound realistic?
