I am currently a marketing manager trying to figure out the next step in my career. I have had a lot of experience in marketing communications type activities: creating collateral, press releases, managing trade shows, and promotions. I am wondering what experience I may lack on the quantitative side: managing P&L, managing product lifecycle, product mix, etc. If I am more interested in the creative side of marketing, should I stay in MarCom? Or do Brand Managers deal with both? Is there less growth potential in MarCom - job ads make it seem like an entry level profession making only around $35K.

I joined this company (sales and marketing department in a electronics factory) as Sales and Marketing department manager. Since this is my first job to be a department manager and I didn't study business management (I was major in liberal arts), I worked very hard. However, I don't know how I can make my staff respect me from their hearts and work their best in their job so that the whole department can show obvious improvement. Today, 2 staff had big argument in front of me and I yelled at both of them to stop arguing in public and if they want to argue, please go to a conference room. I think I made a bad judgement by yelling at them like that. Also, Do you think they do not respect me? Please help!

I just started a job at a big company as their marketing co-ordinator and I do some web dev & design too (as I fortunately have some additional skills). However I feel useless every time a magazine rings me or our when our bi-monthly campaigns are due, because I have to keep asking "What should we advertise in this magazine?, What should we promote in this campaign?, What should we write? I've only been here for 6 months and still learning but Im wondering if it's normal for all marketing new-comer to be like this (since they don't fully know all the services/product). He once said he'd like to eventually promote me to marketing manager but im hopeless (at the moment) in doing anything but co-ordinate and design whatever they 'say' or 'write down'.

Hello All, I have a interview Friday for a Assistant Marketing Manager Position. I have a BFA in fashion with 4 yrs of design and 1 yr of Brand Management. I am a specialist in Intimate Apparel because that has been my focus for the past 5 yrs. I am going up against Business students who have the business skills that I do not. One thing I do have is more work experience, and a strong knowledge of the product while most business students have no idea of the process of fashion. I am flying out for the interview so thats a good sign I was told but I want to ace this interview but also feel confident that this is a job I can perform. By the way I am very resourceful. I am very good at finding the answer. How can I stand out?
