Social Media Specialist Job Questions & Answers

Title says it all. Or what other degrees would you guys recommend for this career field? I go to Sac State University and they don't offer anything Digital Media/Social media. I want to go into being like a social media specialist (people that deal with Facebook, Twitter, etc). Would a mass communications degree be the choice for me? Or what other degrees would you guys recommend? Thanks for the help!

Have you guys heard of social media job opportunities like getting paid by posting facebook comments or tweeter? I got this buzz from my sisters' friend, but no idea how authentic is this? If this is indeed real -- as in real opportunity? Do you know any site where i could get started? (that is tested and real also and not scam) -- thanks!

Recently recieved a job offer but am unsure about the title? It is in market research and involves primarily social media marketing but also other online PR/marketing strategies. What are some typical formal job titles for people doing similar jobs in this field?

I graduated college in 2008, then got my master's degree in 2010. I have two bachelor degrees in Criminology, and the other in Communication Studies. My Master's Degree is in Mass Communications. Throughout my undergrad, I worked my butt off on my degrees and worked close to a 40 hour work week as well. I also worked at least 40 hours a week while obtaining my master's in just a year. I have always worked hard and fought for what I want to do. I was let go from a position in January 2011 and was unemployed for over a year. I landed a job finally through my brother working for police dispatching, but it does not pay enough for me to live on my own, nor is it the career I want for the rest of my life. While unemployed, I went to many job fairs, applied for countless jobs, and have not heard anything back at all. While getting my master's degree, we worked for actual clients to gain real experience for what we did for them as far as Public Relations and social media campaigns, crisis communication plans (something I love to work on), and organizational communication help for internal and external communication within the company to improve workplace communication and morale of employees. I have applied for everything under the sun, from jobs that I am over qualified for to ones that would challenge me enough and I meet qualifications for. I never hear anything back, and in the three years that I have been out of school with my Master's have only had three interviews related to my field. Most of the positions that I apply for only let you apply online, and have no means to contact anyone directly. I do not know if this is my problem, but there has to be something wrong. Due to me having to work and pay bills while in school, I was unable to get involved in a lot of extra curricular activities (did not join a fraternity or anything like that, nor was I able to take part in other things in the school). I have been unable to land a job in my field, and my only experience is from what I did during school. I have looked into interning for places, but most of them require you to still be in school. I was never afforded that luxury at that time for a number of reasons. My internship requirement in school was satisfied by a research proposal because that was all my time would allow me to do. I am at my wit's end. I am also scared that I am now stale to employers, and too old to start a career in this (I am 27). Is there anything that I can do to help my chances? Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

So I notice that loads of my friends on social media sites are going abroad (Australia, New Zealand, etc) but i've always wanted to go to America. My brother has been before, but the people who he went through have stopped the programme, so I cant go through them. Do I need to have an actual job lined up before getting out there? I really don't mind the job, I just really want to live out there for a while, and experience it all before it's too late! I was wondering if there was anybody else that may have been recently and could offer me some advice on how I can go about planning for this?

I'm a high school student, and I was wondering what kinds of jobs their are that involve reading/writing/English. Any suggestions would be helpful, but i'm looking for some things i may not have heard of before, rather than publisher, author, literary agent, English teacher, journalist, etc. I'm big on creative writing and reading so i would love anything that involves that. Also, what kind of college majors would best prepare me for these jobs. Thank you!!

I am currently working as a temp to perm "Marketing Specialist" for a $50 million supply chain management company with just over 70 employees. What I make right now is irrelevant to me, since it is the staffing firm who is paying me until the 4 month probationary period is over, then the company will hire me full time. The Vice President told me that after the 4 month period ends, they will hire me and restructure my salary based on competitive industry data. I have gone through the detailed question and answer applications on PayScale.com and Salary.com, and also researched the positions on Glassdoor.com. Vault.com, and random online websites, which all come up with a salary of $52,251 (with an overall range of $34,021 to $68,264) based on the job, my responsibilities and skills. I manage the marketing communications, strategy, and project management for all marketing initiatives for the company. I am also going to be establishing Media Relations, University Relations, and Community Relations divisions within the company, and expand them. Also, I have a Master's degree, and roughly 6.5 years in marketing, social media, project management, and strategic decision making experience. Based on this, do you think that $52,251 is an accurate amount (or too high or low?), and do you think that the range of $34,021 - $68,264 is also accurate (or too high or low?)' Thanks.

Now I am still a little bit a way from having a job. I have always worked with horses and cannot see my life without them. I am still learning a lot about MEMORIZING (key words I really know them just not memorized) the parts of the horse and its skeleton. And all the diseases and systems (like the digestive) of the horse. I just want to know what different jobs you can have like vet or farrier or that teeth guy. List as many as possible please! And please do not spam me with a million repeats. I really want all of the horse jobs thank you sooo much! I am 13 and I have been working with horses since I was 4 or able to talk. Dont judge me I had speech problems. Now I talk fluently. And I own 3 horses. A thirty year old, Am training a 3 yr old with my sister and my horse that is good for good 12 yrs old. I am not looking for jobs that suit me, but every horse job. I want to work with horses so bad when I grow up. I have a lot of responsibilities. My mom hates horses and is basically only a ride whenever she is awake. My dad has a job in Ohio and he comes home on weekends. He is pretty bad at riding. my parents are in divorce and my sister is going to the military and is always at work and is good with horses. My other brothers and sisters are married and not in state. So i am really experienced and responsible for the food water hay de-worming and vet check ups. ( I do not pay for it)

Hello everyone. I am interested in pursuing a career with a minor in social psychology and a major of management/computer information systems. I am currently attending school for both. My question is what kind of jobs are out there in which I could use the two? I realize to do much with social psychology you need a PhD, but if the job focuses more on using the IT to perhaps do research on the social psychology field? Is there a common title, such as "Information technology specialist in social trends" or "IT analyzer" or something I could easily search for? Any answers are appreciated. Thanks!

I want to go into print journalism, but as I look at colleges, I've noticed that some schools have a Communications program instead of Journalism, and some have both. What are the differences? Which program would I be better off looking into so far as getting jobs after college? Can you reccommend a school?
