 | Is it easy to get a job with a company (zoo or aquarium) as an animal trainer? Do you get paid well? Do you need a degree for that or just training?

 | I know that they are very different careers, but I have always had an interest in both my whole life. I absolutely love marine biology and being a marine animal trainer would be like my dream job. I do understand that is competitive. I am willing to work hard though. I also have always wanted to something in the medical field. I would like nursing and feel like its more practical. So I don't know what to do. I am going to college this fall and need to figure out what path to pursue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 | I realize that this is my decision and I should make my own choices. However, I would appreciate some input on your opinions. A firefighter because I want to make a difference in my community, have an excuse to work out, and the job seems exciting. A animal trainer because I love animals, have an excuse to work out, and it also seems interesting. I understand that their are difficulties and commitments to both. I would love to hear some feedback.
Oh, maybe I should say its exotic animal training.

 | So, I know what I need to do in order to be a vet. I am planning on majoring in biology. After I get a bachelor's degree, could I work on the side as an animal trainer as I am going to graduate school to become a vet? Or do I have to abandon this idea and just focus on one versus the other? I really want to be able to pursue both. Thanks! Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

 | I'm just getting ready to go into college and I decided that I want to study to become an animal trainer. There are many places you can work.. animal shelters, theme parks, movies, zoos...etc. Do you think it's kind of a lame career choice? I know I care too much about what others think, but I just want to make sure I'm not making the wrong career choice.

 | People always suggest I find another career path since I don't want to be a Vet, which seems like the only career with animals that make "enough money". But I insist that I must have a career with animals, even one that does not make much money.
Wildlife biologist and zoo keeper are my two choices, but both make around 35k, more or less.
How much do animal trainers make, mostly the ones that work with exotic animals?

 | I've always wanted a job as an animal caretaker/trainer (NOT a vet) such as those seen on shows like "Growing Up" on Animal Planet. However, I've had a hard time finding out any information about this job, such as the official job title, job requirements, average pay, etc. If there is any information people have from experience, or if anyone knows any resources for additional information it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! =)

 | To be an animal trainer or a vet tech, does it involve a lot of math? As a sophmore in highschool what kind of classes should I be taking? Do you get to be "hands on" with the animals? Are there any requirements? What is the typical day of one?

 | I really love animals, especially dogs and really want to work with them as a career. I have thought about an animal trainer but I want to explore my options. I don't really want to be a vet because I don't like to see severely hurt animals. Also, what are good things to study for jobs like this?

 | I Don't really know what one is best. I know i want to help the animals but I don't want to become a vet, and the most amount of years of college i would want to be involved in is 5 or 6 or less :). I know that the amount of income shouldn't matter, but for a job a really do want to be able to support myself and pay the bills. Can someone tell me what are some real life tasks that each of these jobs would have to do? I was also thinking animal trainer, but they don't really help the animals do they?

 | I am 16 (almost 17) and going on my junior year of high school. I want to be an Exotic Animal Trainer and work with big cats. I've researched a lot and noticed that whenever I look up schools, one in California keeps popping up. Are there any schools near Indiana that offer classes in the direction of what I want to be? I live in Indiana and don't want to move far away.
Do I have to go to college and then go to a program?

 | I've seen that you can become a paid animal trainer in busch gardens with the right education etc. So, I was wondering if there are any other places where you can train or breed big cats as a career?
