With autism. The Special Ed specialists want to put her in school all day. I'm terrified because of my own issues of past abuse. My daughter is basically nonverbal. I want to quit my job and sit outside that classroom everyday. I'm so scared something will happen to her. I'm beside myself. What should I do? I asked a similar question a bit ago.

I'm looking into the following: 1. Elementary Ed. Teacher 2. School Social Worker 3. Early Intervention Specialist 4. Special Education-- Emotional/Social Needs 5. Child Case Worker 6. Child Mental Health Counselor 7. Child Life Specialist 8. Elementary Guidance Counselor Ideally, I would like to work in a school setting but overall, want to help children in need...and have stability in my salary/benefits as well. Suggestions?

What are jobs/ what do you do? How much do you get paid? What are pros and cons?

My undergrad is in Health and Human Development with a focus on child development. I am half way through my Master's of Education (dual certification in both Elementary and Special Ed.) I currently work in a non-profit sector as a special educator in Early Intervention. I spend my day traveling from site to site providing services. While I have a strong passion for helping/teaching children, especially those with special needs, I'm starting to change my mind on actually wanting to be a school teacher now. I actually enjoy more of the "desk work" and "planning" aspect of the job. If employed by a school district, I'd like to provide more indirect service -- coordinate services for children with special needs, act as a liaison between therapists, teachers, and parents. Conduct meetings or trainings, etc. Part of me is also interested in other fields...perhaps providing training/education consulting for a company/organization or working at the university level as an academic adviser. Are these possible options with a Master's of Science in Elem/Special Ed. and B.S. in Human Development? What career options other than teaching are there for me?

I'm getting ready to apply to grad schools but am unsure of what I want to focus on. My B.S. is in Child Development and Family Studies. I am interested in working with special needs children but I do NOT want to be a teacher. I prefer one to one or small groups and like the idea of coming up with behavior/treatment plans for the children to focus on their needs. Therapist positions or Early Intervention appeal to me, I enjoy the behavioral/developmental side of things. School psychology/counseling is something I'm very interested in but have been told I'm limiting myself working in a school. What about intermediate units or other settings? And although it's not my top priority, salary is a concern of mine. I have 2 years experience in social work and 1 year as an aid in a school for autistic children. In both jobs, I barely make enough to pay all of my expenses. I really want to live comfortably yet do something I'm passionate about. What Master's degree/career would be most beneficial?

3 months ago my son was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, what made me decide to go to a developmental specialist was when i enrolled him in a daycare center, i observed that he is not sitting on his chair & doing different things from his classmates. i was shocked to find out that, i am totally clueless what asd is...i searched & read about the cause & treatments. we started the occupational therapy and we've been going to his therapist for 3 months now.i've seen a lot of improvements, and he can now ask & say what he wants, though he cant still compose a complete sentence.up to now, i am still seeking for answers. what is life when he grows old? is he going to outgrow his asd? he is my only son and im totally disappointed to find out that he has that kind of disorder.i just want him to have a life on his own someday.i cant be with him forever. some parents that i interviewed in the therapy center, they told me that a lot of children in the center finished the therapy after 3 years and already mainstreamed and they already attend to a regular school.i want to stay positive that my son can go to a regular next year after a year of his therapy.but i'll continue his therapy until he gets better.another problem is that i dont have a job to support my son's fee for his treatment, its very expensive.i just do hope that God will help me along the way.can you give or share some advice about asd and is it really true that 3 years of therapy is effective in order to get out or somewhat be a normal kid again? my son is normal and saying words when he was 1 and 2, thats why i didnt expect he has asd.thank you. im here in the philippines.God bless !

I will be graduating in December and don't plan on going on to graduate school, at least not for awhile. I want to use my degree but am having a hard time coming up with possible career opportunities. I was thinking Human Resources may be interesting but without a business degree I'm afraid that I may have a difficult time getting hired. Any advice will help!!! I was originally planning on pursuing a master's but recently decided against it because I feel like I need a break from school and also I don't have the money.
