Operations Manager Job Questions & Answers

I'm an operation manager for a car rental company and now my boss is saying that I have to spend HALF of my time working in marketing and advertising for the company. Is that part of my job? And he also doesn't want to give me a budget to spend in advertising, so basically I have no money to work with, how am I supposed to only work with fliers and knocking on doors??? It got to a point where this is not enough anymore. Anyways, let me know what you think.

My sister is the operations manager of chain of dental offices, but I don't exactly know what that means, lol. I don't want to ask her, because I'd feel embarrassed because I feel like I should already know haha. So what exactly is her job? Thanks = ) Oh, that makes sense, thanks. I can see why everyone at her job was kissing up to me when they met me, haha. = )

There is so many opinions out there about what the difference is between these two and which one has more oppurtunities and so on. I would love to know what the most direct difference is between these two fields, they seem so similar. Obviously the name Operations Manager hints at managing, but to me it seems like it is a more business-like approach to industrial engineering.

On May 7, I tentatively received a job offer from HD pending my background check and drug test results. Several days passed with no call. I spoke with the Operations Manager on May 13 and he told me that I was clear and good to go. However, it is May 26 and the HR coordinator still has not called to let me know when orientation is. Trust me, I have tried calling the store several times trying to get the date. What is going on? How long does it take?

I'm considering an Industry Change. I've been an Operations Manager (at various companies - all "interior design" based) for about 12 years now, and I am totally burned out by this industry. I think managing a gym would be fun, exciting and rewarding. Also, would it help if I was a certified fitness instructor to get a managing job? Would it matter? Please help. Thanks.

I work at an audio house and we had a Saturday recording session scheduled with one of our bigger talents. The recording engineer had a family emergency and ended up at the hospital with his baby and had his cell phone turned off. When the operations manager called him to see where he was he kept getting voicemail. The engineer was a no show for the session and the talent's agent charged the company a $5000 cancellation fee. Now the owner of the company is making the operations manager and the engineer pay $2500 and $1250 respectively. Is this legal? They both are paying for fear of losing their jobs.

A new Operations Manager was hired several months ago at the company I work for. I love what I do and have no intrest in being tied down to a desk, yet it seems she is worried about me. I produce more work than anyone else on the team and now she wants to tag along with me, so she can take credit in the events and functions I coordinate. She wants me to complete task and overwhelms me with side jobs when she can not be around to monitor what I am doing and when she can tag along hands them to someone else. I have thought about quitting because I do not need a babysitter but why should I let her ruin my carrer, I love! Help.... what should I do in this situation? She has a degree in Biology and we are in a social service field. The other employees openly share their disgust for her views. (The org I work for has assistance for furnishings after Hurricane Katrina and she insist on buying mattresses that have p*e stains, tables with broken legs and sofas that have silver tape holding the fabrics together.) I refuse to provide client's with these items because that does not show them any dignity and the money does not belong to me anyway. Why not help someone with items that will last? The case managers agree with me more than do with her and she takes their comments to heart and because they favor my leadership skills, take her anger and fears out on me. ....... I did not mention this but she came into the picture from another org because the director has a crush on her not based on what proffessional experience she has. What would be the best steps to bring the attention to our CEO without causing more problems along the way?
