Production Scheduler Job Questions & Answers

I have a Bachelor's degree in Operations Management with a minor in Management Information Systems. I have relatively six months experience as a Production Scheduler. I was laid off at this job and have been looking for a similar job since then, May of last year. Also, I have been working on an APICS certification and have one test away from completing that. Will employers care that I have the certification or will they still look for someone that has more experience?

Im currently using Visual Basic 6 to develop a preventative maintenance program for a beef production plant here in Ireland. The program consists of a Work Order (list of jobs to that have to be carried out on a machine) for every machine listed on the program. I have 25 machines put onto the program and so there is at least 1 Work order for each of them. I now need my program to be able to schedule these work orders to be done weekly, monthly, quarterly or annually, depending on the machine itself. For example, one of the machines in the program, a rotary vac pack machine requires scheduled work to be done on it weekly and monthly so I need my program to be able to schedule this work and inform me when the machine's next work order is due to be completed. In other words, today is the 30th of January so since work needs to be carried out on a weekly basis on this Rotary Vac Pack machine, I need my VB program to inform me in 6 days that work has to be carried out on that machine tomorrow and continue to alert me every week that work has to be continually done. Is this even possible and if so, how can it be done because to be honest I have no idea.

I work for an automotive parts stamping plant. Until recently, my responsbilities included CMM reporting and Quality administration. Back in August I applied for a job that was posted for an MRO buyer / Production Scheduler in our facility. I got the job (with a catch) They offered me the job on the condition that I also maintained the CMM responsibilities since there was no one else at the facility who could do this work. I agreed although I was doubtful that all of the duties could be completed successfully by one person (and stated so at the time). Now I am 2 months into the new job and although I have taken on the MRO buying I have not yet been trained on the Scheduling due to the fact that the CMM duties took up too much time to allow for it. Last week a quality technician left the facility and they have decided not to replace him. Friday, they asked me to take on part of his responsibilities. How do I refuse the responsibility without getting fired? You are right. They are cutting costs. I believe that they will announce the closure of the plant very soon. However, in the meantime it's not worth my health to try to keep up. They are making the mess (mgmt) so they should take steps to fix it instead of dumping on us drones. I appreciate your answers. It tells me that at least I'm doing the right thing by trying to stand up for myself. Thanks

My company wants to promote me, but the pay is meager. Not worth my time. They have let a lot of people go, and we have little work, yet they want to promote me. More hours, 7,000 more yearly to my salary, and I will have two titles. Production Scheduler, and Customer Service Supervisor. They want me to take the position, but I feel it's not worth it. I have two college degrees and make less than a lot of people at my work. It is unfair. Also they have been letting people go alot, but just claim they are eliminating the posistions. I feel this may happen to me if I decline the position. If it were more money, I would take it, but they do not value my education it seems or my intellect or my skills, and are to be blunt, just stupid. The company lost a lot of business, and it's hard to find a job. I feel I may be let go it I say no to the promotion. What can I do, as in legal action? What should I do? This is in Illinois by the way, where you can be let go for absolutely no fault whatsoever in any job. The state is horrible when it comes to people's rights. Thanks everyone for your input. This is not just about education. I should have mentioned that I have a lot of experience too. This is also not about that as well. I am the only employee with an education. More than half the dolts at my job can't put together an email, follow up on assignments, DO THEIR JOB. Ya you know what, I do feel entitled, rightfully so. I gotta say, I'm smarter than half of them, have more on my plate than half of them, do my job way better, and am getting way underpaid for the industry standard. Don't forget that I am now expected to take on two titles, as I stated as well. This is not just a promotion for a new title - a singular title, I will still retain all my responsibilities from my last title. The money does not make sense to me. To make it easy, let's say I make 35k, they want to give me 42k, for two positions. These are not actual figures. You know what sounds fair to me. Pay me 35k for each postion. Give me 70k, as an example. Can you really argue wit

I've been with my company for 1 1/2 years and the person in charge of purchasing just quit. I've had several positions within the company, most recently I was moved into her office to assist her as well as do my current duties. In January of this year, there were three employees working in three positions (Production Mgr, Master Scheduler and Purchasing Asst). One quit and one got fired, and I do all three jobs now, with little problem. When the Purch.assistant quit, instead of hiring another one, I was asked if I would be interested in taking over those tasks and I received a 6K raise. I agreed. I've moved to purchasing two weeks ago, and now I'm the only one in here! Instead of hiring a new Purchasing Agent, they are transferring another office person here to train (they offered him 10K raise, but he makes less than me). So... I just got 6K raise to assist, but now I have the most experience and am talking to all the vendors. Do I bring up another raise? Help/advice pl

I'm an Intelligent young guy who, I'm not ashamed to say, doesn't carry himself nor thinks like some street rat just because my background says so. I have some really good experience under my belt as a scheduler and client rep for post production company's and even tested mobile phone applications. I don't even get a response for the thousands of 10 an hour customer support positions I apply for. I've been on four interviews in two weeks and if they don't ignore me completely afterwards, they finally say, " uhhh...yeah we've filled that position" after I've called them back a couple of times. 10 years ago this never happened! I am in no way a threat to anyone. I've got to be able to make a living!!! I think the fears of terrorism and the emigration issues have created this heightened fear that's made it so that people with backgrounds (especially black males i feel) are being forced to take jobs they cant actually live on. Unfortunately I don't have the time to go to school right now to make myself more marketable because of my current pressing responsibilities. At this point in my life I'm really not one for excuses and this whole background thing is shaping up to be one but I need to work! And at the age of 35 and living in Los Angeles, realistically, anything under 10$ and I'll have to live in a shelter just to save a few hundred a month. Could this be by design. Is this a way to destroy the middle class so that there's becomes a society of only the wealthy and impoverished? Whats going on here that someone who wants a job in America cant get one. Somethings up. Not trying to say its about race. My question was about my background for those who felt that was my emphasis. Its not. I mentioned it not happening 10 years ago but seems to now I was refering to background not race. I stated briefly that it seems that black males are being turned away more and you know what some might say statistics would suppport that but that was still not my focus. And its true, perhaps 35 isn't exactly young to employers and there should be no excuses to not furthering ones education to be competetively marketable. My resume seems to get me the interview (even lacking the collegiate accolades) but when it comes to the background check, that great interview is out the window no matter what. Someone commented about the number of applicants per posting these days and I didn't think it to be so but it puts things in perspective and your advice was encouraging.
