On Wednesday evening, Salinas resident Juana Rojas said she had an important job to do After getting off work, Rojas got ready and went to church not to pray but to organize with others and demand comprehensive immigration reform. "We are tired of waiting," the farmworker said in Spanish. "I'm a citizen now and [politicians] need my vote. We have to mobilize by any means." Rojas said she has family members who have been separated because of what she calls "a broken immigration system." She was one of the hundreds of farmworkers and community members from Salinas and around Monterey County who gathered at St. Mary of the Nativity church in east Salinas to ask U.S. Rep. Sam Farr, D-Carmel, to push for immigration reform in Washington, D.C. "My heart is with the people who better this county with their labor," Farr told the audience in Spanish. "I need an army of people. ... We are changing this country to fulfill the dreams for everyone and not just a small group. I'll be your voice in Washington." Wednesday's community meeting in Salinas followed action by the Obama administration which launched investigations of hundreds of businesses around the country as part of its strategy to focus immigration enforcement on employers who hire illegal workers. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has begun notifying businesses of plans to audit their I-9 forms ' employment eligibility documents that employers fill out for every worker ' the agency told members of Congress in an e-mail Wednesday. National push for reform The president has said immigration reform could be done by the end of the year or early next year. Obama has urged Americans to hold community forums to discuss issues such as immigration reform and health care and to forward their ideas for solutions to his adminstration. His request was answered locally by the Salinas Valley Coalition for Immigration Reform, formed by the United Farm Workers Union and Monterey County Supervisors Simon Salinas and Fernando Armenta. The group, which organized Wednesday's forum, is pushing for a single piece of legislation that would include legalization for undocumented workers, family reunification and a guest worker program. The coalition was founded after U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez visited Salinas last month as part of his nationwide "Family Unity" tour highlighting how the nation's immigration system negatively affects families. At Wednesday's forum, Salinas-area residents shared personal experiences involving immigration issues. One speaker encouraged all legal residents to become U.S. citizens and vote. Rojas said that even though Obama hasn't been aggressive about immigration reform, she remains hopeful. "We have to be positive about what the president promised," she said. "But if nothing happens, we must do something." •The Associated Press contributed to this report. http://thecalifornian.com/article/20090702/NEWS01/907020324/1002/Salinas-residents-say-they-are-tired-of-waiting-for-immigration-reform

If we want change, we need someone "just like" Palin. Her not being corrupted with Washington's politics and lies makes her Perfect for the job. Just having love for America is enough to be VP. I think. Idea with change is what the presidents did in the past. They made change without knowing exactly what the prior president did for 8 years. Palin has dominated and has intimidated Obama's campaign & media by kicking butt and taking names with her proof of handling anything that is thrown at her and does it better than any other man has handled it so far. I'm a man and hated the idea that Hilary would make it into office because she was about making a point about herself more than making direct positive change like Palin wants to. Hell, Palin honestly seems to have subliminally taken the presidency from McCain already. You can tell how she owns the office already with the way everyone loves her and the way McCain stands beside her while he plays with his fingers as she takes the stage..lol. I like McCain. He is slow and not cool but we don't need a Cool dude for president anyway. A cool president will only lie in the long run for sure!.. I like McCain for what he has accomplished in the past in the military. He seems as positive as it can get for our future. We need change and I truly believe he will steer away from what Bush has done. He was surly in the same path as Bush but I believe that after all the people of America wanting change here lately and having Palin will cause McCain to make more changes for us than just doing what he wants to do. Palin has changed me with the idea of a woman being in the White House. I'm not a sexist but it is an obvious change to get used to and I like it now with Palin only so far!!... NOT and NEVER Hilary!!..

Ok, I'm about to start my senior year of College where I have been studying computers (specifically multimedia and programing). I have a GPA of 3.96 and have a 4.0 in all my classes at this university (I got two B's in community college classes I took while in high school) so far. In my free time, I started a website design company (Jenn's Web Design) where I make/update websites for small businesses and I also tutor computers, mostly with older people, for $20 per hour. So far everyone I have worked for has loved my tutoring and I really enjoy helping teach people who don't know how to turn the computer on and off correctly to check email, write letters, make spreadsheets, and so on. I have done some higher-level tutoring, tutoring a non-traditional student at my school in our programming classes (she is a year behind me). I have experience in multiple fields (a summer at IHOP , two summers at Schiltterbahn, a semester as a secretary for a lawyer, a year as a computer lab assistant and about to start my second year as the computer lab supervisor, just to name a few). My dream job would be to work in the education department of a software company and be the one who puts on those workshops about how to use their software. I am really quick at learning software so I am not really concerned with what company I work for (although if I could choose I would go with Adobe and teach Actionscripting workshops because it combines my love of Multimedia and Programming). I would like to do this because I love to travel and I really enjoy (and am good at) teaching, especially computers. This job would pay me to travel and put on these workshops, combining these loves. My question is this: where and when do I start? Should I apply now even though I am unavailable for eight months or should I wait until closer to graduation? Should I just submit an application to HR of several companies or should I try to find an insider (and where would I find them?)? Please give me some direction. Thanks for your time.
