Building Inspector Job Questions & Answers

In this case I am talking about a building inspector. If his job is to enforce codes, and he doesn't do it, who is it that busts HIM for not obeying the law that gave him that responsibility? In this instance there is a building that has no certificate of occupancy, and isn't even finished, but it belongs to his friend, so he is allowing the friend to live there even though the building violates codes. I am talking about a very small community, and the code enforcement office has a total of three people. The guy in charge is aware of the status of the home, but has chosen not to enforce the code that says you can't live in a house without a certificate of occupancy. He answers directly to the town supervisor, who, for some reason, lets this guy get away with this stuff all over the place. The town attorney won't do anything either. I've asked them both. So, someone should be responsible for making ALL of them obey the laws on the town's books, but no one will!

My father has had severe back pains. He says he can barely walk without it hurting. He has been building a new house. This requires him to lift very heavy objects that could strain his back. For his job, he has to drive alot going from house to house for inspections. (he is a building inspector). What type of problem could this be?

Like a Building Inspector, Engineer or a Business manager got the smarts but not the skills some thing is just missing. Put them out on a job and they are clueless on what to do but can talk about it all day. Like asking a structural engineer to frame in a house can tell you how to, but if you give him the 2x4s nails and a level he is totally incompetent. Ever meet any body like that ?

The room doesn't exactly remodel itself. It takes an interior designer, furniture manufacturers, construction workers, truck drivers, electricians, engineers, building inspectors, etc. If the rationale is we don't want tax payer dollars going to remodeling, why is Obama hiring the same interior designer to refurbish parts of the White House? If someone who accepts taxpayer money should get no perks, then Obama should be taking the bus instead of Air Force One.

Suppose a homeowner is selling his house, and a city inspection is required in order for the new owners to get a occupancy permit. In such cases, they will come around and list all the violations that need to be corrected before the new owner can take occupancy (GFI outlets in bathroom/kitchen, smoke alarms installed, etc). What if the inspector told the homeowner to repaint the living room wall white because the current color was ugly? Can he do that? Could he lose his job for that? This never happened; this is hypothetical or "what-if".

What do building instructors do? What do you have to do as a building inspector? How is their job related to the law? What is a typical day like for a building inspector? What are the educational requirements to become a building inspector? If you are a building inspector, why did you become one? What do you enjoy about it? What's challenging about it? How long have you been one? What advice would you give to someone who wanted to become a building inspector?

What kind of an engineer would supervise and direct projects such as bridge building, road building, building towers, building windmillls in the sea, and by direct these, I mean that this engineer would be present at the site during the entire construction process and be outdoors the whole time with the construction workers. Would a mechanical, civil engineer do this type of work?

A pipe in the wall between my kitchen and bathroom wall was leaking and has left very bad mildew stains on the walls (one of those being the walls within my kitchen cabinet). Is it my job to remove the mildew stains before they get worse or is the landlord's responsibility? I'm not planning to move anytime soon but don't want to be penalized by losing my deposit for not fixing it.
