Research Engineer Job Questions & Answers

Just curious.. I recently graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree. I had this feeling in my gut since sophomore year that this career was not for me, but I didn't want to change majors and start over. I've received a co-op engineering job and I can say I really can't see myself as an engineer in terms of a career. I'm really looking to take a risk and try something either COMPLETELY new or maybe a little similar but very different. I have been looking at research jobs in hospitals and stuff like that. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I am a M.S. Applied Math major. I plan on taking some Mechanical Engineering courses. I want to know this. In California, do you need a PE license or any other license to practice an Engineering job? Can I have an engineering profession without any license? I like to do problem solving/research work (in the field/at a company), but I may plan to do technical or design work. Thank you.

Hi my fiance is majoring in genetic engineering and about to get her bachelors in it. In my opinion and from research the job opportunities are very little in this field. So i have 2 questions. 1) with a genetics engineering job would she be able to do all engineering jobs or just genetic stuff 2) If she goes to get her masters is it possible for her to change her type of engineering degree such as to a biomedical engineer or is it to late?

I currently live in Texas and will graduate in May from Texas A&M with a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology (like Electrical Engineering but more application oriented rather than theory). My wife and I would like to move to NYC. I'm starting to look for a job. What is the best way to find and get an electrical engineering job? Interviewing would be a different process without face to face communication. I'd be looking at $50K-$70K starting salary.

I'm currently pursuing a B.S in physics and I'm researching what sort of jobs would be available to someone with a B.S or MS in physics. Specifically, I'm curious if engineering jobs are open to physics majors. Clearly, not every engineering job would be, but would there be some overlap?

So I'm a physics major and pretty much finished with my degree. I have a ton of research experience, I was sps vice president, and thats about it. I would like to get a 2nd major in electrical engineering, unfortunate there are some bullshit communication classes that I would have to take which would postpone graduation. I could however take all the fun senior electrical engineering classes and get a minor. I was wondering if with my credentials if it was possible to get a respectable electrical engineering job that someone who majored in it would get. Thanks

I got into the University of Maryland for Journalism, and I would transfer into their Engineering program after my first year on campus. I want to have a full-time engineering job after school, like Monday through Friday, but also write a weekly Saturday or Sunday column for a local newspaper wherever I am. Could I do a double degree in Aerospace Engineering and Journalism? How long do you think it would take? Does it even make sense?

Hello, I'm a senior in high school, and am going to major in engineering. I am thinking either mechanical or aerospace. I understand how aerospace is a more specific branch of mechanical, but in the real world, what would a aerospace engineer job vs a mechanical engineer job look like? Thanks for the help.

Obviously most serious research jobs are out without more education, but I'd like more options. Teaching (elementary or high school) is the only one I could think of. Thanks.
