My mom wants to get into property management and the job descriptions all include "market research"? What kind of market research would you do for apartment buildings? She was a property manager for 3 buildings for 27 years and she never did or even heard of such a thing. What kind of background do you have to have?

I am looking for great ideas to do with the tenants, ways to make it more beautiful, and how to make it different from all the rest. This is my first property management job, and I want to kind of prove to all my superiors that they did not make a mistake hiring me. What are also some other ways I can stand out as a great manager for an apartment complex? Any suggestions are welcome, and thank you in advance!

I recently had 2 interviews for a property management job in NYC. They both went very well and I was left with the impression that if I want it the job is mine. I recently finished up an MBA program and have never had to negotiate a salary before. I have a few months experience working in a real estate law office but no experience in property management. Does anyone have experience in this area and know what I should be asking for starting out? I would also probably need to get a car for this job so I think that should factor in to what I ask for as well. Keep in mind this is in NYC and rent is about one gagillion dollars a month here. I really appreciate the help! Thanks in advance. Rob - The organizations has a multi-billion dollar portfolio. It is mainly large residential units in Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan. If I were to guess I would say the average property value is somewhere in the $5-$15 million range. While I know a car wouldn't be included, it would effect how much I would be willing to accept as a salary.

I am making a carrer change form property management to first the mortgage business, then to real estate sales. I currently have my Illinois Loan officer certification, now I am thinking of gettign my brokers license. I am asking you for any tips on how to succeed doing this, what it is like the first year, how do I become successful at this, who should I employ, how much should I pay, how to market, who can build an awsome web presence, any good books i should read, and most importantly how do I do this while haning on to my full time property management job (I have no money otherwise). Thanks, I figure a mortgage broker will give me some more time to spend with my 3 year old son.

Residents of the apartment building are not happy with the Property Management performance. The building admistrator doesn' t do his job properly and Property Management condones the situation. The value of our properties dwindles in comparison to the same in other buildings in close vicinity. One board member of the Board Directors of /Middlesex Condominium Corporation/ has majority of votes and can do whatever suits him.

Besides BBB (Their BBB has already been revoked for poor ratings) where else can you file a complaint against a property management company thaT doesn't do their job? After months of waiting they still haven't done maintenance on the property like they're suppose to do. Don't give copies of paperwork as requested, etc

I own a townhouse in Ontario, we have a condo board and that condo board has meetings with the property management team, but unfortunatly our property management doesn't seem to care or does a really poor job at pretending to care about the owners concerns. I have written letters and have left messages with the owner of the property manager with no response. I was just wondering who he has to report to? Who is his higher up and who can I go to with complaints about this company?

And no Property management is not selling houses. Property management is managing an apartment building, condo, dorm, garden style apartment complex, office building, hotel/resort, or other structure that is leased or managed for someone or for a company or condo board/
