Field Sales Job Questions & Answers

I tried asking the lady on the phone who was setting up the interview and she said "I only set up the interviews I dont know information on this job." LOL what kind of professionalism is that? Has anybody heard of the field sales jobs and do they only make good money based on high sales? In other words if they start you out as hourly, is it minimum wage? Then I feel I would not want to take the job. Thanks

I have an Associates Degree in Film. I've been working in my field a little, but not as often as I'd like. I'm not able to move to LA where most of the Film Jobs are. I have a Wife and a Future family that I have to support and my current job as a Fim Projectionist Supervisor isn't working for me anymore. What kind of Jobs could I apply for that offer benefits and pay at least $10-$12 an hour? I've already applied to Marketing and Sales Jobs, as well as Cutomer Service/Call Center places. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I might have to start job searching in a couple of months due to a potential layoff. I haven't been in the job market for several years, and I know there are a ton of new job search websites out there since then. Used to be that Monster was pretty much it! I have a bachelor's and about 20 years experience in the marketing/advertising field. I would appreciate recommendations for professional sites that offer more than just a bunch of entry-level stuff and bogus sales jobs.

I switched companies a year ago but I have been doing the same technical sales job for a while. Now, the job remained the same but the technology I sell is different and even though I have 15+ years experience in this field, it seems like an uphill battle to learn this stuff. I have the capability to learn it but I feel tired and like it is a lot of effort to do so. Work has been slow and managment has had a lot of changes. I guess over the summer, all of this has left me with a lot of apathy about my work which is 180 degrees (my wife use to fuss at me because I put work ahead of family) of where I have been. You would think that I'd be doing more around the house and with the family but I think I'm slipping the wrong way. I just don't feel like doing much of anything. I am mid-thirties and ADHD (hypoactive) but I'm pretty sure my meds are still working. I feel like something is overpowering them instead of them not working. Any tips to getting me on the right track?

Just curious, as to what you all thought, or knew, were the highest paying sales jobs in the country, something you could make realistically 100,000 or more a year in three to five years of service?

Where can a young, extremely motivated and ambitious college student start a career in this field? I have tried searching for sales related jobs, but most of them require, at minimum, a completed college degree. I know it may seem rather ambitious for someone my age to jump into such a career, but I can't tolerate working in passive environments (fast food, retail, etc)

I'm going for grad school because I want to get the opportunity to be a manager. Since I didn't come from one of the business fields, (sales, marketing, finance/accounting), and came from engineering instead, there's no promotion path for me. But it seems pretty hard to get into grad school (besides joke grad schools like U Phoenix) in the first place. It almost feels like the college admissions council gets to decide whether I can become a manager more than the people at any job I'm at.

Hi I have been looking for work now for 1.5 years my resume has been checked like 20 times by various people it is good and I have good interview skills. Problem is whenever I apply to a job requiring a bachelor’s degree there are always 10 to 50+ people applying for the same job and one or two positions available. I can't get an interview with any normal job (burger king, Wal-Mart, target) because I have e a bachelor’s degree in fact I have applied to many of these places numerous times. I have applied to over 3,000 jobs the last year and a half. Reason I am good at interviews is I have been doing sales the last ten years - I hate sales (door to door) but they are the only people that will hire me. I am now at the point where I would rather die or be homeless than ever do a sales job again. So I know how to speak I have made it to the final 5 people more times than I can even count several times I was the last 3 to 5 people and out of those people the only one without job related experience. I always make it past the first two rounds. I have called back to many places to find out why I did not get hired here are some that make upset. 1. I had a 4.0 average in college to some I guess that means I am over ambitious and socially inept. Wrong!!! I helped many people get through college I was one of the most popular people on campus everyone knew me. I got a 4.0 simply because I am smart it was that difficult for me and to get any other GPA simply would have been no challenge and I may have got bored. 2. I am 34 years old some people don't like people older working for them. 3. Some thought they were doing me a favor thinking I could get a better job. Sorry I can't I've been looking now for 1.5 years. 4. A problem with burger king type jobs etc. They think because I have a bachelor’s degree I am going to quit like I have better things to do. Wrong Wrong Wrong! Burger king Wal-Mart etc plenty of turnover and chances to advance in position. Additionally, I never want to look for work again I will stay wherever I land. I have talked to many assistant managers and managers at these places most of them got those positions within 6 months to 2 years I'd be absolutely fine with that even if it took longer. Look up stuff people the median rate of people quiting at McDonald's etc. is within the first 6 months. There worried about someone with a degree quiting, but what would be the difference lol most people quit degree or not what is the difference? 5. My bachelor’s degree gets my application thrown in the trash instantly by many low end jobs. The funny thing is starting jobs for people with bachelor’s degrees now a days don't even pay much more. In all honesty I'd rather work at target as a cashier for 8.20 per hour than a data entry person for 9.00 and hour stuck at a desk all day. The highest paying job for a bachelor’s degree that I had an interview with was for 11.40 an hour I could get that in 6 months to 2 years after a promotion anywhere and like I said I would rather be walking around stocking things and helping people all day then sitting in a desk. 6. People hire people they know and relatives and such. If they know who they are going to hire why did they waste 49 other people’s time with interviews? 7. I apply for a certain position I go in for the interview and they offer me a sales position I did not apply for this happens often. I have only done sales to stop being homeless or to pay rent so I would not be homeless. I do not like sales. 8. Of course not enough experience. I'm sorry it does not take long to learn how to use a cash register or wait tables like a day screw off seriously. I can't even think of anywhere else to apply to I have literally applied to almost every job in my city population 800,000 It's a big city. The worst thing about not being able to get a job is how people treat you like you are stupid or inept. When you say your applying everyday they seem to think they know you must be lying. You must suck at talking (interviews) which I do not. I've even went to interview practice at work help places. It’s so funny what they say "good job" do that at your next interview and I can't even seem to convince them that that is exactly what I have been doing at all my interviews sigh. There are many people out there in the exact same situation I am in. I wish I never went to college or at least went for nursing or something I could have got a job with.

I am 26 years old and have been working in sales for the past few years. I have a year and a half of college completed but unfortunately was unable to finish. I am really tired of sales jobs and want to go back to school to be a lawyer which I originally intended to due. I know that law school is very long and I am just wondering if it is a good idea to go for a law degree at this stage in my life. Any advice from someone with experience in the field would be greatly appreciated.

I was offered a second job interview for a sales job at a local theme park (Knott's) and my first interview wasn't the best...i apparently appeared super nervous and as a result my answers to the interviewers questions were not a great representation of my work ethic. My interviewer said that I need to be more confident, make eye contact, etc. So what I'm asking is if you could give me tips and also some sample questions and answers of what the interviewer would like to hear. Thank You!

I'll keep this short. Im too far into my Finance major to change tracks. I love the field of business and all but the truth is I fear ending up working a sales job and cold calling people. So I want to pursue a MS in engineering related to the finance or business field. My question is would the Fin. major itself prove my capability of successfully completing an engineering program or would I stand a better chance with a Math minor and what else can I do to improve my chances of getting accepted.

I graduated from university at 22 with a B.A. in liberal arts. I had some money saved up from gambling winnings (mostly online poker) that totaled about $25,000 and lived off of that for a year. At 23 took a job as a paralegal but quit after 3 weeks, then I began a sales job for a steel company but got fired within a month for sexual harassment. At this point I decided to go back to school to study accounting. Unfortunately my credits did not all transfer and I will not complete my degree (actually I wound up doing a double major in accounting and corporate finance) until I turn 25, which will happen simultaneously this upcoming May. In the fall of 2013 I will began a one year program at UNC to complete my masters degree. My GPA was very strong and I was granted early admission. The problem I've been having is that I'm not enjoying my accounting internship and fear that I will hate the job. I'm planning on taking the LSATs next month and if I'm admitted to a good law school I may decide to pursue a legal career. My brief work experience as a paralegal was mildly enjoyable but I quit because at the time I was more interested in the possibility of earning a lucrative income, so I took a chance on a sales job that didn't pan out. Even though I'm not enjoying my experience thus far within the accounting industry, I've come too far to not finish my original plan. I'm going to complete my dual undergrad degrees, get my masters, and if I get accepted I will attend law school on a GradPlus loan. The problem is that by the time I'd be starting law school, the Fall of 2014, I will be 26 years old. I realize that many people begin law school at an advanced age but do they also have no respectable employment history? The other possibility is that I attend law school, find that I don't enjoy (or I'm academically uncompetitive/overmatched by peers) the coursework and decide to cut my losses and quit school. At this point I'd theoretically have an accounting masters to fall back on. But will anyone hire an accounting grad who is 27 years old and has never held a legitimate job for longer than one month? If I complete 3 years of law school I will be 29 with no employment history. Will i get hired by anyone? Will excellent grades give me a chance?
