Technical Sales Job Questions & Answers

Sort by:
I switched companies a year ago but I have been doing the same technical sales job for a while. Now, the job remained the same but the technology I sell is different and even though I have 15+ years experience in this field, it seems like an uphill battle to learn this stuff. I have the capability to learn it but I feel tired and like it is a lot of effort to do so. Work has been slow and managment has had a lot of changes. I guess over the summer, all of this has left me with a lot of apathy about my work which is 180 degrees (my wife use to fuss at me because I put work ahead of family) of where I have been. You would think that I'd be doing more around the house and with the family but I think I'm slipping the wrong way. I just don't feel like doing much of anything. I am mid-thirties and ADHD (hypoactive) but I'm pretty sure my meds are still working. I feel like something is overpowering them instead of them not working. Any tips to getting me on the right track?

I've applied for this as a Technical Sales Support (entry-level) job role and they give very little job information. The company is a financial planning firm. I have A-levels only and I have been invited for an interview for it. They will explain it further in the interview, but for obvious reasons I am extremely ardent to know what the job would entail before hand!.

I have almost 40 years experience working in textile chemical technical sales. I have always made decent money working in the textile (wet processing) industry here in New England. Most of this industry is now in China and most of the local textile plants in this area have closed. I am willing to retrain for another industry. I am looking for suggestions here. Thank you.

I'm thinking of completing an Electrical Engineering degree and was wondering what people are making just out of college and those that have been in the field 5+ yrs. The main careers I am looking at are Design Engineer and Technical Sales Engineering. Any input from people with those jobs would be great!

I have spent over 15 years working in customer service. All of working experience has been in retail sales and support. Over the past 8 yeas I have been working in Technical Support, IT Support and Network Support. All I know these days is how to work with customers to resolve technical problems. Now I want to break into Technical Sales, but without the inside/outside sales experience I am not sure how to grab an employer’s attention. I am confident enough with my customer service skills and am an excellent communicator, but I do lack the “Sales” experience. What can I put on my resume to emphasize my customer service background and make an employer realize that I am a worthy candidate for a sales position?

The selling was for a variety of companies, telecommunications, electricity, charities, etc. I have a technical background, but i can't get hired in technical sales without experience. How talented do you have to be to do well at this sort of work?
