What kind of jobs can you do following a degree in chemistry and chemical engineering?

I'm having a bit of a dilemma choosing what degree to do at university; i'm primarily torn between chemistry (possibly with physics) and chemical engineering, the big decider is the jobs and careers i can go into following it. Obviously with chemical engineering, you can be a chemical engineer; but what does this entail and what is the sort of pay you'd expect? Also what careers can you go into with chemistry and how are they different to chemical engineering, and what is the typical pay in these? I'd like a career revolving around chemistry with a good pay and reputation... Thanks everyone :)
