Geologist Job Questions & Answers

Anyone can look up salary numbers on sites like Payscale - I've already done that. But the problem is the numbers seem to vary widely from site to site, so I don't know who to trust. So, please, I'm looking specifically for answers from people with actual experience or know people in the oil industry only. How much can someone with a geology degree and zero years of experience expect for an oil industry geologist job? How much more money can someone with a Master's degree in geology, instead of a Bachelor's degree, expect to make? I'd really rather hear about your own salary experiences, or those of people you know, not just some numbers from some website. How much were you, or people you know, paid right out of school with a geology degree?

I was talking to my geology teacher and he mentioned something about some geologist jobs not being well fitted for women. So what are some that are best fitted for women? Or does gender really matter? haha he said he didn't mean to be sexist but you never know lol

My husband just graduated s a geologist (Bachelors degree). He just got a job with the BLM that pays very low and it looks like it is all inside paper work. He has to sit in a cubicle all day. He is a very outdoors type of person! So what sort of job or where should he apply for an outside/adventure geologist job? Do geologists who work for oil companies work mostly outside?

I really want a job where you discover things. Like discover new species of fish. I really love space, what jobs do they have discovering black holes. ect. I thought about a marine biologist, but when I was searching people say marine biologist's barely find jobs. If they do find jobs they have little to no pay. It could involve anything space, ocean, earth. Anything that involves discovery. By the way im 13 looking ahead. I want to know a job so I can tell what I want to do in high school then on to college.

I have recently graduated with a geology degree and apparently there are a couple of courses that I have not taken in order to meet the requirements of being called a "professional geologist". I would just like to know what are the advantages/disadvantages of being called a geologist and/or professional geologist? Do I have to be called a professional geologist? Will the pay be less if being called a regular geologist?
