It is good that you are thinking this way.

Unfortunately, I am unable to help specifically. What may help would to contact (email, letter, phone or in-person) building contractors (large or small) to see if they will allow you to visit a site.

Not necessarily to be formally a trainee QS, but more likely simply to observe and ask the tradesmen questions. I am sure most will be very helpful.

In other words you will learn the job from the grass roots.

I suggest you make notes of what the work entails. These will help when you get round to learning the theory at college.

Hope I've helped.

I am at University in Scotland studying Building surveying and want to do a year out placement in the industry, I have managed to secure an interview in a Quantity surveying firm in Leeds, a completely different role, but the experience in construction is all I want. I need help in understanding the role of quantity surveyors and potential questions they may ask me in the interview. I would really appreciate the help of any professionals who know the field well and could help me? Thank you in advance.
