I know there are police dogs and rescue dogs, but what else do working dogs do? I have never known anyone that kept only working dogs. My parents worked as police, so I have seen drug dogs and K9 units, but those cops considered their dogs their pets as well, and treated them much like ordinary pet owners do. Is that how it is for all working dog owners? What exactly are the jobs they do?

I have all the education: two master degrees, one in criminal justice and one in criminology; I have done serious research with both offenders and victms; i have worked with the latest in crime detection applications, such as geographical profiling..... But now that I am out of school i can not find a career to use all this. I am thinking of just getting my PhD and teaching but I really want a hands on career in criminology. I don't want to just do crime analysis; I want to contribute to real cases in a more hands on way. Where would my talents be useful?

Okay, I'm 17, and I'm trying to decide what I want to be. I've always loved animals, but I don't want to be a vet. I want to earn a degree, I want to make a difference, I want to help animals. I want to travel the world and learn about different cultures, and I hate the feeling of being helpless when I see an animal in pain. The commercials where they show abused animals make me cry. Any job you know of involving animals, not a zookeeper or trainer or a vet, please let me know. Thanks!
