Detention Officer Job Questions & Answers

I applied to become a Detention Officer about 6 months ago, made it to the point of taking the polygraph and told them information about my past that I couldn't remember to mention when I was being interviewed and answered a bunch of yes/no questions. The question was have you ever took a prescription drug w/alcohol and I told the polygraph examiner that I did once a while back and they disqualified me. I wasn't lying, just was a minor event in my life that I couldn't remember and I wanted to be honest when I could recall doing so. Is it worth my time trying to apply again?

I worked a state job for five months as a detention officer at a jail and I was fired. Should I put it on my resume? If I'm applying for government jobs should I keep it on my resume too? I'm worried about what comes up in background checks.

I'm trying to get a job as a detention officer and I will be working 12 hour shifts rotating every two weeks. Also, every other week, I receive a 3-day weekend off. What days of the week would I be working? Anyone in a similar situation or know anyone who is?

I'll be 18 in September and a senior in high school and I was looking online the other day and I saw that the sheriff office here hires detention officers at 18. Would I be able to go through all the training and work on the weekends? Or even as a controller. In case you don't know the controller is the person who controls all of the call systems and communicates with the officers and inmates. I was just wondering. Thanks. also I have no criminal record at all. Not even a speeding ticket.

JOB DESC: This is the first level of the detention officer series. Incumbents are responsible for supervising an inmate population during an assigned shift. Specific duties include monitoring visitations, maintaining log entries, transporting inmates, and preparing reports as necessary. How long is training? It says I have to aquire a docc certification within one year. Is that offered through the training program or at a community college? thanks

The Bexar County web site says that anyone looking to become a patrol officer must first spend two years in the detention center as a corrections officer. Do promotions from detention to patrol happen regularly after 2 years? Or is this one of those deals where I'd have to spend at least 5 or 6 years trying to infiltrate the good ol' boys club in hopes of getting out on patrol?

Just recently applied for a job at Rockdale co. Ga sheriffs dept. I'm currently 19 and just wondering... I understand that I can't carry a gun while i'm in the jail. I was just wondering if my stature as law enforcement would allow me to get a permit for personal use if i'm under 21.

I was told that now that I was certified as a jail officer, I was able to carry a weapon off duty, and follow the same carry restrictions that police officers carry under. Is this true? I believe it is not, but I want to make sure. Thanks!

What are the different jobs in law enforcement? Are there any that require you to go away when you first begin your study into it? What exactly is the police academy and do you actually get sent away when that happens? And last what kind of education is expected for law enforcement? I know it's a lot but I'll be choosing the best answer, so please help. Thank you!
