Facility Security Officer Job Questions & Answers

I have heard how they are not well trained and will hire almost anyone. Schedulers rarely have jobs (stable posts) for Officers and do LESS work than Human Resources Personnel meaning they pretend to work but are lazy. Sergeants do the work of Lieutenants and Captains without the pay just the responsibilities. That Human Resources Managers and Low-Level Security Officers are under-trained, Under-Employed, Under-Paid with almost no opportunity fro promotion and rarely get a pay-raise even after passing the probationary period. Also get no over-time pay; they begin early and go home late. They equipment is not in the best conditions. People who make money are from Contract/Facility Managers and up the ladder of management. Is the Service Employment International Union, http://www.seiu.org/ , a group of liars.- http://www.unionfacts.com/ What happens to Security Officers that tell the truth about real working conditions and become Whistle Blowers? Pay raises are almost non-existent.

My husband is actively looking for a security position in Phoenix. He has an associates degree in police science and he has experience as a security officer on a golf resort. Problem is - we don't live in Arizona so we're not familiar with all the companies out there. We've searched all the golf hotel resorts, hospitals and the airports to no avail. It seems that most of the security companies out there will take anyone with a HS diploma and pay them nothing. Is there any other places or ideas you could give me to check out? He would much rather be employed for a company itself than a "security company". Thank you!

I'm a Security Officer in the state of Texas and I usually work the graveyard shift. My shift begins at 11pm and ends at 7am. I'm currently working in a state facility and it's a pretty cool site. I'm alone at work; like most Security Guards. I've been working at that site for 4 months or a little more and I never had any problems there. Last night I was doing my third round (in complete darkness only using my flashlight as my light source) patrolling inside the old, historical main building and I saw a man enter a room at the end of the hallway. I hurried to see who it was and tried to open the door he opened; it was locked. I have the keys to the entire site so I used one to open that door and when I did, all I saw was cleaning equipment. That room turned out to be a janitor's closet and no one was inside! I clearly saw someone go in that room. I honestly got scared and decided to leave the building. As I was walking in the dark hallway towards the exit, I felt like someone was right behind me but I didn't bother to look back. Could this be real or just my imagination?

However, I don't know a whole lot about the job itself or what the officers do.
