CNC Operator and Machinist Job Questions & Answers

I've been doing many warehouse jobs from forklift operator, assembly, inspector, loading and unloading, picking, packing, quality assurance. I guess all I need is to move up the management ladder but I know I wont get too far up since I don't have the proper education. So I've been considering hvac or machinist CnC programmer. I've been looking on the Internet and seen many negative reviews about machinist jobs. Or the other option i have is to get trained and get a CDL and drive locally for a mining company?

AutoCad Programmer or CNC/Machinist? I'm very interested in both I'm almost 20 and have production machine tender, machine set-up operator and blueprint certified with some other certifications on the side I was going for CNC/Machinist but I find the AutoCad Programmer more interesting. Is there plenty of work ? Pay rate good in Texas ? Any machinist or AutoCad programmers opioins ? Any knowledge I should try and learn in the pursuit of one of these carees I'm leaning towards AutoCad programmer but I'd like more opioins from older and wiser people I know our economy is bad and i want a job that will last thank you

I'm a cnc machinist in a small shop. I've worked at this shop for at least a year and a half and haven't had any raise or inflation or anything what so ever, which is nothing new according to other guys in the shop. seems ridiculous. guys that have been hired after me that had 1 year extra of experience than me made about 2-3$ an hour more and weren't anymore qualified. i've talked to my manager about this issue 3 months ago, but he went on about the shop not having the budget for raises and so on, and that we would discuss wage adjustments after december in the new year. it's february and still nothing has change and i'm not sure what to do? i feel like walking in and saying that i NEED a raise or i will be seeking better employment but i don't know if that would be the best option. I've also recently applied for better paying jobs that aren't in the machinist field. any ideas or advice? thx

Im having a really hard time choosing what career I want! I love Photography, but Ive heard its VERY expensive. Im only 18, and I have a very bad back :( Which limits a lot of my options. On another side of me, I wouldn't mind going to school to do some kind of Radio/Television work, but the high school Im graduating from, is a modified school (Meaning, I will have a hard time getting into post secondary school. During elementary, I was made fun of a lot, and told Id be a high school drop out. So I don't want to just have a starter job (Mcdonalds Etc), I want to be able to show these people (That have made fun of me) That I have become a successful person. Most of my family, doesn't have much schooling, but they all have successful jobs.. This makes me feel like, If I were to get a job at Walmart etc, Id be like a black sheep in the family. How do I choose the right career??

As computers advance more and more I think the need for skilled machinists, sheet metal fabricators, and welders is just going down the toliet. With andvanced CNC machines and robots to run them operators have pretty much been eliminated. Even the machine programmer has been eliminated in some areas were they use 3D models files to make parts. Even welding has been replaced by robots. All these robots doing the jobs for us and plus we can't forget all the outsourcing going on it seems manufacturing in the US will soon be gone. (with the exception of military manufacturing. I don't know about you but i don't think we are going to trust china with top secret bluebrints for a new fighter jet). What is going to happen when the next big war comes about? who's is going to make parts to support the war? The young men will be gone at war and the women will have to run the factories. the problem is WHAT FACTORIES?!! everything is made someplace else now. The only jobs that remain is dumb ass engineers who have no experience in the shop. Engineers are Theoretical. Machinists are practical.
