I'm asking for real finish carpenters in the trade. Even with staircases and built-ins set aside, WHat does an average paid carpenter make to install base, crown, door window trim, wainscoting... Some areas I've heard $30/hr, some $65. I'm still newer to the trade, 4 yrs exp.

Does anybody out there know if you normally have to ask your employer for a raise in construction or if they raise your pay as you are worth more to them I got a job as a finishing carpenter 1 year ago and my wage went up from 10$ an hour to 13$ is that a good wage or should i be making more than that?

The taxpayer bailed out the banks, now the banks are harder than ever to get a new home loan. Think of all the people you put to work in a new home- framers, concrete men, plumbers, roofers, finish carpenters, carpet layers, cabinet makers, etc. plus material- lumber, wiring, windows, drywall, landscaping etc. The foreclosed homes will always be there- do something for new home construction.

A carpenter charges $42 per hour for his time and $20 per hour for his apprentice's time. On a certain job, the apprentice does some preparatory work alone and then the carpenter finishes the job alone. If the job took a total of 11 hrs and the total bill was $324.50, how long did each one work?

Im getting ready to go college this year in September and i've already got a unconditional offer to do Carpentry, but on the other hand the only reason i choose carpentry was because i choose BTEC Design Technology and i realised that i enjoyed using my hands and woodwork. My friends told me that carpentry is really hard and difficult so i just wanted to know the what skills or qualities that i would need to become a carpenter. Please and Thank You.

We want to enclose a small basement utility area. It is 9' by 8' (only two walls), and will have one door. It would be finished with drywall on the outside only. How many hours would a carpenter take to do this small job (on average?). What is an average hourly rate for this kind of carpentry? We live in a suburb of Philadelphia. Thanks so much!

I will soon have my credit to income ratio to the point where I will qualify for about a $150,000 home loan. Our income is not high enough to get much more than that. We will need a 3 bedroom home for our family of five, but there is very little in my price range with that may bedrooms unless I want to move an hour or more away from our jobs. Would it be significantly more cost effective to build our own home? Where can I get more information on this? Googling offers me alot of junk and useless information that doesn't help. If I built my own I would have to contract out for the major things like foundation, roofing/trussing, etc. I may be able to reduce costs by doing my own drywalling, siding, etc. though. The question is wether or not it's practical enough to be worth my time.

I've been doing all aspects of finish trim for over 7 years now. I'm trying to find out the range for installing finish trim in homes. Both Paint grade and stain grade rates. (Baseboard, Crown, Cabinets (installing), Cabinets (building), Door installation, Closets etc.) Most the houses i do side jobs are already being lived in. Some are new construction. I live in Northern california where prices are steep. Hope i gave enough information.

I am Indian woman living in India. I have joined a job in an MNC organisation and people there seems to be all-rounder. They have varied passion, interest and knowledge. Despite working at office for 10 hours & doing household/family duties, they still have knowledge about Indian Saas-bahu daily soaps, reality shows, English daily soaps, both English and hindi movies, etc. They have passion for music, they daily hear music and have knowledge about English songs and music, etc, They know everything about fashion, they know history and details about their's & other's culture, they do social networking, they read a lot & discuss about books, author, articles etc. They have knowledge about stock exchange, they have knowledge about sports, sportsperson as well and they know about current affairs and also latest technologies.... But hell, I wake up everyday, finish household work, take bath, dress up and go to office and come back, get exhausted, cook, eat and sleep.... I just don't get time to hear music, watch English movies or hear English music, don't get time to read books or articles or blogs etc... I hardly read newspaper headline. I haven't developed much of knowledge about varied things. When they talk about various things, I keep quite like a stupid because I don't have much knowledge what they are talking about? I see Indian daily soaps, movies or hear hindi music its because when I reach home my family members are watching that so I watch with them once in while, BUT I don't get time to watch English soaps like "How I met your mother" "Friends" etc.... Then I really don't watch English movies much, and I just don't understand English songs, so remembering their singer and musician names is out of question.... Even if I hear English songs once in a while I don't remember its lyrics, but people at my office not only understand but also know the lyrics well, they also have varied interest in music and have knowledge about music, then they also have read various books and they discuss about it. They have knowledge about latest trends, fashion, technologies, history, stock market,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, & I DON'T - WHY? I WONDER HOW THEY GET SO MUCH OF TIME? I AGREE I AM A BIT LAZY BUT STILL - HOW? I haven't wrote above line in caps to shout but to put emphasis on it......

The reason I am asking is because I am being charged 55/hr for him to knock down a load bearing wall (8 ft span), and place a beam at the top (below the joists), there is no attic work involved. The total cost for this job is estimated $2,875 which he states I won't find a better price anywhere else. Is this true?

Hi, I am 15, and in the 9th grade. I hope to go to college after high school, to become an Architect in Residential Home Design. When I was young, I taught myself how to design blueprints on the computer using Architect Design Software. Next year in 10th grade I selected an AutoCad course. These blueprints are not of any specific house. I was bored in class, and pulled out a piece of paper and started sketching the Blueprints, right from my head. When I got home I designed it on my designing software. Anyways, I was hoping to get your input on a design I just finished about an hour ago. Any comments/suggestions will be great. 3D Rendered image: http://www.flickr.com/photos/91121041@N03/8572830325/ Ground Floor Blueprints: http://www.flickr.com/photos/91121041@N03/8573921054/in/photostream/ Second Floor Blueprints: http://www.flickr.com/photos/91121041@N03/8572829825/in/photostream/
