Furniture Maker Job Questions & Answers

Sort by:
I was wondering is it possible to become a furniture maker just by buying some tools and a workshop and becoming self employed or get a job at a company as a furniture maker with only second level education. Is it strictly necessary to get a 3rd level education. I have known and heard of people who just have a second level education and started their own business and who are now quite successful.

Im 19. I took a wood tech in high school and enjoyed it alot. Lately I have been thinking that being a cabinet maker might be the right job for me, because I am creative, like to put things together and I like to work independently. I do not have much experience at all and would need to be shown everything from the basics. Is this possible? Where would I start?

Can you help me find a suitable job for my character? He's a decent, home-orientated family man, so nothing sleazy or that involves a lot of travel. It should be something that others are envious of. It should be something masculine - nothing geeky or effeminate. It should be well-paid, and though he isn't in the public eye he will be highly respected in his field. Ideally it should be something which involves working with his hands. I know, I don't ask for much, right? Thanks to anyone who has any suggestions! Not bad, but... would you be envious of a carpenter?

Ugh, my husband and I both have full time jobs. We don't even have kids, but it seems like our house is ALWAYS a landfill!!! I try to clean on weekends, and a little during the week. But heck, how much of your life do you have to spend cleaning?! How often do you clean? What do you do? How do you KEEP the house clean? Seriously, do I have to clean the entire house every day? If I do, I will be getting a maid here pretty soon. Eff.

I've wanted to make coffins for a long time now. My interest are more multi-media oriented but i think building something with my hands would be amazing. Are there any females who construct coffins? What qualifications do i need? Do i need to be a carpenter or is it something you can learn with on the job training, apprenticeship? What is a coffin maker called? Are there any good sites that have DIY instructions? I'd like to make coffin furniture, i know its not original but I'd like a coffin coffee table.

My Dad is working two jobs (one at the high school and the other online) and my family is living paycheck to paycheck. Recently our car broke down and it's going to take a lot $$$ to fix it. So, basically my family is struggling financially right now. My mom is a home-maker (incapable of getting a job for specific reasons) and I am the oldest sibling at 14 years old. I want to help my family financially but I'm too young to get a job and I just don't know what to do. Help, please.
