 | Our tiler has never re-appeared after my OH stupidly paid him in full before he had completed the work - grrr! So now we need to attach downpipes soon - do we drill through to the wall, or to the battens - or is there another way?
Please help, this is causing so many rows...!!

 | I am a self employed joiner/tiler of 6 years, and am currently really struggling to find any work. I have a 3 month old daughter, and my wife is on maternity leave. I know january is always a slow month, but this one is by far the worst so far. Any ideas or views on the matter?

 | I am looking for a job now. I am not team-oriented. I am looking for jobs which I can work by myself. I think newspaper deliverers and truck drivers are examples of independent work. Can someone suggest some more independent jobs? Thanks.

 | The tiler wants to install mesh and concrete and put the tiles on top. I've heard that for a 10 x 4 ' floor which is what I have, concrete board over the existing plywood is the way to go.

 | Hi Everyone !
My boyfriend lives in France and is planning to come to live in UK next year. He is a professional and experienced tiler. I would like to know if you have any name of employment agencies in Construction located in London who may be able to employ him next year? Do you know any French agency for construction in London? Or is there anywhere I can go to have more informations?
Thanks a lot.

 | Our house has a gas ducted heating system that a previous owner installed. There isn't a duct in the bathroom, but we noticed one under the house sitting there ready for it. Is there a way I can put that into the tiled floor of the bathroom? The main problem is doing it without having to retile the bathroom - can I cut existing tiles without pulling the whole lot up?.
Alternatively, who do I need to pay to do this for me? A builder? A tiler?

 | Hi everyone !
I am from France and came to London 2 years ago, my fiance still lives in France and doesn't speak English at all. He is planning to come to live here from next April but without English he can not have a good job. He is a fully qualified tiler and have few years of experience.
Does anyone has any suggestion?

 | I currently reside in Europe. However I want to be able to travel to South America and live there for about 5 or 6 months each year more or less. I would like to plan to live for example, summer in Europe, and summer in South America. How do you think is the best way to do that. What type of jobs should I have, what sort of career would be best fit for that lifestyle.
Thanks :)

 | My dream job is to be a career firefighter; the camaraderie, the respect, and the thrill make it seem like a fantastic job despite the low pay. However, I also want to have a decent sized house and an enjoyable, stress-free lifestyle. With all the downtime in the firehouse as well as the 24/48 or 48/96 hour shifts it seems I would have ample time to pursue my financial goals.
I'm curious to know if it is possible to manage a business or to have another decent/well paying job on the side.
Thanks for the input.

 | I'm taking over a tiling job that is half completed, in the shower the last tiler left a rubbery membrane that is loosely stapled to the lower walls and floor. I don't know if I'm to keep stapling through this stuff, or put "backer-board" on top of it (which would also include putting screw holes in it), or wheighing it down with tile (doubtful). Any advice, or tips on websites that have the answer would be much appreciated.

 | The tilers that I hired to do my hallway, in my living room, didn't finish the job. The customer service rep says he will finish the job, on his own time to make me happy. The tiles are paid for. 11 tiles, in a straight row, carpet is already removed. the last tile needs to be cut in half.
