I'm really worried about the economy and looking for a quick certification so I can have some sort of qualification in case it totally goes under. I found a 14 credit hour renewable energy certification at a community college. Do you think this will do any good for finding jobs?

Crony Capitalism: $737 Million Green Jobs Loan Given to Nancy Pelosi's Brother-In-Law 11:00 AM, SEP 29, 2011 • BY MARK HEMINGWAY Despite the growing Solyndra scandal, yesterday the Department of Energy approved $1 billion in new loans to green energy companies -- including a $737 million loan guarantee to a company known as SolarReserve: SolarReserve LLC, a closely held renewable energy developer, received a $737 million U.S. Energy Department loan guarantee to build a solar-thermal project in Nevada. The 110-megawatt Crescent Dunes project, near Tonopah, Nevada, will use the sun’s heat to create steam that drives a turbine, the agency said today in a e-mailed statement. SolarReserve is based in Santa Monica, California. On SolarReserve's website is a list of "investment partners," including the "PCG Clean Energy & Technology Fund (East) LLC." As blogger American Glob quickly discovered, PCG's number two is none other than "Ronald Pelosi, a San Francisco political insider and financial industry polymath who happens to be the brother-in-law of Nancy Pelosi, the Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives." But wait... there's more! One of SolarReserve's other investment partners is Argonaut Private Equity: Steve Mitchell and Argonaut Private Equity might have a chance to recoup some of their losses in the Solyndra debacle now that the Department of Energy has given a $737 million dollar loan guarantee to a company backed by Argonaut that also lists Mitchell among its board of directors. Mitchell served on the Solyndra LLC Board of Directors. He also serves as Managing Director for Argonaut Private Equity, a company that invested in Solyndra through the LLCs parent company. After Solyndra declared bankruptcy, two Democratic members of the U.S. House asked that Mitchell testify about Solyndra. Though he has not appeared before Congress, he has "been asked to provide documents to Congress" pertaining to Solyndra. And for good measure, it's also noteworthy that Obama is about to hold a big money fundraiser at the home of Tom Carnahan in St. Louis: Carnahan, a member of the prominent Missouri Democratic family, has been tapped by the Obama campaign as its chief Missouri fundraiser. He is chairman of the board of Wind Capital Group, a wind energy company that makes it corporate headquarters in St. Louis. He formerly was president and CEO of the company. Last year, Wind Capital's Lost Creek Farm facility in northwest Missouri received a $107 million tax credit from the Treasury Department, among many such wind operations receiving support from from stimulus funds. Tom Carnahan is the son of former Missouri governor Mel Carnahan and former U.S. senator Jean Carnahan. He's also the brother of current Missouri secretary of state, Robin Carnahan. It's increasingly hard to tell the government's green jobs subsidies apart from the Democrats' friends and family rewards program.

Whopper, Indeed: Republicans More Responsible for Green Outsourcing As part of our “Whoppers of the 2010 Election Cycle” article, we noted how Republicans ran misleading ads accusing their Democratic opponents of creating jobs in China by supporting the stimulus package. Not only did these ads completely twist the facts, but it was disingenuous for Republicans candidates to accuse Democrats of sending jobs to China when GOP members opposed the “Buy American” provisions that would have prevented this offshoring. Here, we discuss how the GOP’s sustained opposition to meaningful climate and energy legislation played a larger role in sending green jobs overseas than a vote for the stimulus. The ads in question twisted facts from an investigative report that had discovered some stimulus reimbursement funds for renewable energy projects, like wind farms, had gone to foreign-owned companies domestically and abroad, largely because there are few wind turbine manufacturers in America. The latest figures suggest only 0.00037?f the total $700 billion stimulus package, $2.6 million, may have made its way to China; however, the ads claimed that "China gets $2 billion to build windmills," or that the package "sent nearly $2 billion overseas to create jobs in China.” Even though the numbers cited were incorrect (the majority of foreign-owned wind developers were European), America’s weak clean energy market makes it inevitable that development funds will make their way to foreign-owned businesses -- wind turbine purchases are half of the initial wind farm development costs, and the U.S. has only two homegrown wind turbine manufacturers, General Electric and Clipper Wind. What’s more, both manufacturers still import many parts from overseas factories, and their market share has been consistently slipping, thanks to increasingly vibrant wind industries in Europe and Asia. Republican Policies are Responsible for the Dearth of Green Manufacturing Jobs http://www.prwatch.org/node/9616 There is nothing that Republicans can say or do that will remove this massive stain from their shirts.

Second Romney-Backed Solar Company Files For Bankruptcy By Igor Volsky on Jun 2, 2012 at 4:15 pm On Thursday, Mitt Romney campaigned at the headquarters of Solyndra — the first renewable energy company to receive a federal loan under the stimulus — and reiterated his debunked claims that its bankruptcy symbolized the corruption and cronyism of the Obama administration. But just one day later, a solar panel developer “that landed a state loan from Mitt Romney when he was Massachusetts governor” went belly up, the Boston Herald reports, creating an inconvenient storyline for the GOP presidential nominee. The company, Konarka Technologies, “filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection and will cease operations, lay off its 85 workers and liquidate”: “Konarka has been unable to obtain additional financing, and given its current financial condition, it is unable to continue operations,” CEO Howard Berke said in a statement. “This is a tragedy for Konarka’s shareholders and employees and for the development of alternative energy in the United States.” The demise of Konarka could become a hot topic on the campaign trail because Romney personally doled out a $1.5 million renewable energy subsidy to the Lowell startup in 2003, shortly after taking office on Beacon Hill. Konarka is the second Massachusetts solar company, along with Evergreen Solar and Beacon Power, to receive taxpayer dollars under Romney’s tenure and subsequently declare bankruptcy. Romney, meanwhile, routinely dismisses the nation’s 3.1 million clean energy jobs, even as clean energy is booming in Massachusetts. The industry has created 64,000 jobs across the energy efficiency and renewable energy sectors.

"Without clear climate change policy, not only will manufacturing jobs be siphoned off to overseas rivals investing heavily in renewable energy sources, but U.S. companies won't have any clear direction on where best to invest their money in new capital projects to keep in line with regulations, top executives said. {...} Improved energy efficiency standards for buildings and appliances; more research and development into biomass, clean coal and other technologies; and opening more U.S. acreage to oil exploration would all help create jobs, Dow's Liveris said. At a separate conference in Pittsburgh, experts said U.S. workers are already finding jobs building wind turbines, installing solar panels and retrofitting buildings with stronger insulation to conserve energy." http://www.reuters.com/article/ELECTU/idUSN1440647520080314 Do you agree with these CEOs that the US needs and would benefit economically from stronger regulations on climate change? entuto - go look up a graph of total solar irradiance over the past 30 years (measured by satellite) before claiming that global warming is always caused by the Sun. dpj5 - why are you talking about Reuters? "The interests of our state have been basically submerged to a special interest developer," Tubby Kennedy has said of the project. Oh really, clean, renewable energy is now contrary to the interests of Massachusetts voters? Tubby Kennedy has no issue with turbines in general, just as long as they're out of his back yard. Does anyone think if the Minerals Management Service issued a report saying the wind farm project did pose a major environmental problem Tubby would ignore it then? http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D95V13SO0&show_article=1 Phil M, if you'd read the link you'll see it's current news. The wind energy industry installed over 2,800 megawatts (MW) of new generating capacity in the first quarter of 2009 - double what it installed in the first quarter of 2008. http://climateprogress.org/2009/04/28/us-wind-power-industry-2800-mw-in-q/#more-6153 Meanwhile the drop in coal-fired generation was the largest absolute fuel-specific decline from December 2007 to December 2008 as it fell by 5,198 thousand MWh, or 3? Natural gas-fired generation was down by 4.4?nd was second only to coal-fired generation in its contribution to the national drop in net generation, as it was down by 2,907 thousand MWh from the December 2007 total….Net generation from wind sources was 67.2?igher than it had been in December 2007. On top of that, as the auto industry continues to close plants, wind energy companies are building facilities and bringing jobs to Michigan. http://climateprogress.org/2009/04/10/wind-turbine-plant-near-detroit-to-hire-250-wind-powe/ Is this increase in renewable energy production and decrease in fossil fuel use a sign of things to come in the USA?

The economy until after the recession is over? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090120/ap_on_go_pr_wh/obama_stimulus Less than half of the $30 billion in highway construction funds detailed by House Democrats would be released into the economy over the next four years, concludes the analysis by the Congressional Budget Office. Less than $4 billion in highway construction money would reach the economy by September 2010. The economy has been in recession for more than a year, but many economists believe a recovery may begin by the end of 2009. That would mean that most of the infrastructure money wouldn't hit the economy until it's already on the mend. Overall, only $26 billion out of $274 billion in infrastructure spending would be delivered into the economy by the Sept. 30 end of the budget year, just 7 percent. Just one in seven dollars of a huge $18.5 billion investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy programs would be spent within a year and a half.

After much delay, I'm ready to make the jump to SE Asia and take up a more simple lifestyle in an area with abundant growth potential. Obviously, the legal market is not open to Westerners and is already saturated with abundant big-firm expats from the U.S. So law is just a skill set for me; I've been working as a solar project developer for the last few years - 30 years old. What would be the best way to get involved with a company in my areas of expertise: solar energy, renewables in general, carbon or other environmental sectors? Most of the job boards I looked at are filled with scammer placement agencies and/or ESL spots. Any suggestions.

I'm almost at the end of my rope. I graduated from a good state school with a BA in Psychology and a decent GPA. In the course of 5 months, I've applied to and interviewed in many places, and haven't received a job offer. I now work at Starbucks to be able to eat and pay gas, I moved back in with my parents. I keep applying but the job search is very depressing. What are some suggestions to get a job? I used to want to get a job in my field- mental health and psychology- but I've widened my search into journalism, social service, marketing, and research. Still nothing. I go to my colleges career center and do interview training with them. I am on antidepressants as a result of the depression I've developed over being unemployed. They say networking is best to get a job, but I don't want to leave it up to serendipity. I apply online as well as making cold calls. Please, any advice would be appreciated..

... Which environment and human rights issue are you concerned about? I'm not asking for arguments about whether global warming is fake or not. I've probably already hear it/ seen the documentary. As a couple of people have asked: I am asking this question I have a particular interest in global warming which believe to be the most pressing issue; however I’ve been finding that people tend to identify with some issues more easily then others (no real surprise there). I am interested in finding out what concerns people who do not accept/feel threatened by man made global warming may share in common with those who do.
