Satellite Communications Technician Job Questions & Answers

I've been interested in a job like this for awhile. I was hoping someone would know some of the job titles that would match what I'm referring to. I don't want to be an engineer and actually design them, just install, setup, and service them. Anyone who can tell me the educational requirements, companies who hire, and/or what these people make will very likely get best answer from me. Thanks!

Just receive a job offer from Schlumberger, D&M field engineer. Want to know what can I do else after 3-4 year on- job training? Some told me the field engineer is doing a separated and unique work, which is not related to most of engineering. So hard to switch to other fields. Is this true?

I have chosen the job as an aerographer in the Navy over being in IT and am wondering if I am making the right decision. I was told not many people qualify for this job and that I should keep it rather than get a job change before I go to boot camp. The only thing I read is about what they do and haven't found any feedback from someone who has experience doing it. Dep.rec.wl

I currently have 8 1/2 years experience as a Satellite/Wideband/Telemetry Craftsman in the Air Force and 2 1/2 years as a technical training instructor for AETC, the Air Force's training arm. I have two associates degrees from the Community College of the Air Force, one in electronics, the other essentially a teaching certificate. I'm looking for a technician or engineering position but am not afraid to go back into the classroom and teach again. I've poked around every imaginable employment site and see that they all require Bachelor's Degrees and higher for employment. I am going to go into a Bachelor awarding course to further my knowledge in electronics when i find employment using my GI Bill. I primarily want to look for a position in the Northeast but am willing to go nationwide or even overseas for the right job. Help! I don't want to feel like I wasted the last eight years of my life!!

My current major is Engineering....I can't do it. I want to do something I actually LIKE. I really love space and learning about it. It's great. But the thing is, what can I do with an Astronomy major. I mean I would love to work at an Observatory, but how much do they usually make? Also how many years do I have to study, and does it require a lot of math?

I was just wondering if this is a good field to get into and can it translate into a civilian job well. I originally wanted to be a 68q or pharm tech but it wasn't available. Which of these two would be better in the civilian world.

I'm in the recruiting process of becoming a Marine Reservist and I want a job in intelligence. I took the ASVAB got a 90 percentile and qualified for pretty much any job. I made the mistake of not making it 100?lear which job I wanted. My recruiter says that Reservists can not have jobs in Intelligence for some reason and instead I should go in as an 2834 Satellite Communications Technician. So, is he lying to me in order to try and fill that job out of quota or is this true. The thing is, we didn't discuss which job I wanted at all and before I know it I went through MEPS today and came very close to signing under this job because he suggested it and said I could change it later on. Luckily I didn't sign the final job contract and came home today and did some research only to find that the job he assigned me has nothing to do with Intel. Is Intelligence available for most Reserve Units? If he really did lie what should I do? Go to a different recruiter? Or go back tomorrow and tell him I won't sign anything unless I get this job? Thank you in advance for all your help.

Hi there, I'm a little confuse about my telecommunication engineering. I'm doing it from a University in Pakistan, and I'm not quiet much sure what will be my future if I study these courses. Here's the list: http://www.nu.edu.pk/ProgramCourse.aspx?prog=bste The degree which I will be awarded will be Electrical Engineering with specialization in Telecommunication. Where I want to pursue my career is in the field of Hardware, Software, communication and interfacing. Will I get all these when I will be graduated? Or these are meant for something else?? Any simple technician or network analyzer... I don't know what exactly I will be doing after my graduation. Can I really go in depth of Computer Hardware and software with these courses, or what will be my future. Please Help.

I am going to enlist, having a hard time deciding which branch to go with. if i go with air force i will try to get a job as a technical applications specialist, 9S100. was wondering if there is one and what the equivalent in the marines would be. i already know how selective the air force is regarding this specialty. i have not taken the EDPT or a practice EDPT but have scored 99 on three separate occasions taking the practice ASVAB. if i cant get 9S100, because it is unavailable, then i was looking into PMEL (2P031) or signal intelligence (1N431, 1N531). what would be the marine equivalents of these, if any? 9S100 - Technical Application Specialist (fancy name for a scientist) 2P031 - PMEL (Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory) 1N431 - Network Intelligence Analyst 1N531 - Electrical Signals Intelligence Exploitation 9S100 - Technical Application Specialist (fancy name for a scientist) 2P031 - PMEL (Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory) 1N431 - Network Intelligence Analyst 1N531 - Electrical Signals Intelligence Exploitation
